Epic Data Releases Wireless Java Gateway

pic Data International Inc. (TSE:EKD.), a leading provider of wireless software technology, today announced the release of eXpresso 1.7, a Java gateway for wireless enterprise and e-business applications.

Massively scalable and platform independent, the eXpresso 1.7 Wireless Java Gateway enables handheld wireless devices to exchange XML transactions with enterprise applications through a high-speed Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) compliant interface. Distributed server architecture provides a common interface for thousands of simultaneously connected devices.

eXpresso supports applications in both wireless local area networks and wireless wide area networks, for anytime-anywhere computing.

eXpresso is device independent and highly versatile. The eXpresso Lite Client runs on any device that supports telnet VT/ANSI. The Lite Client is designed for continuously connected applications. The eXpresso Mobile Java Client uses a small footprint Java Virtual Machine developed by Epic Data. It provides rich client device services for mobile applications with both real time connectivity and data synchronization for operation out of wireless range. eXpresso Mobile Java Client is optimized for Symbol Technologies SPT 1700 family of pocketable computers.

"The eXpresso product applies J2EE and XML technology to complex problems of wireless enterprise application integration. eXpresso is unique: no other software provides a J2EE and XML based platform for wireless local area network applications. In addition to this, the eXpresso Mobile Java Client provides a foundation for wireless wide area network applications. By delivering native XML data to the device level, eXpresso seamlessly connects mobile users to enterprise and e-business applications, said Dr.Jacek Lipowski, General Manager, Epic Technologies and Senior Vice-President, Epic Data.

Release 1.7 includes the eXpresso Visual Screen Builder(TM) tool. The Visual Screen Builderr (VSB) enables developers to rapidly create client application screens using drag and drop menus. The Java code automatically generated by the VSD is easily integrated with host application business logic.
