(EPOS) @pos Introduces Fully Integrated Windows CE Point-Of-Sale Payment Device

TX.C Combines Color Screen, Debit Enabled Tamper Proof Security Module, Smart Card, Signature Capture, and Proximity Payment (IrDA) Capability

@pos (www.atpos.com), (OTCBB:EPOS), today introduced the @pos TX.C, a device that fully integrates debit, signature capture, credit, smart card and electronic payment processing for streamlining both point-of-sale transactions and back office functions.

The TX.C also includes a color display, built-in infrared port, and built-in 3-track magnetic stripe reader. The device includes a touch sensitive screen for digital signature capture, a secure virtual PIN pad for debit transactions, and a tamper resistant hardware security module for encrypting and protecting sensitive data throughout the transaction process. The TX.C provides optional Internet expansion via the PCMCIA Type II card slot for flexible connection to modem, Ethernet and wireless protocol.

The TX.C will be shown by @pos at the Retail Systems Conference, Booth No. 1531, in Chicago, Illinois, beginning on June 26.

"Our retail merchants are continually seeking opportunities to enhance their own customers' in-store shopping experiences. The TX.C color display enables creative marketing applications and encourages customer interaction as transactions are being completed," said Winifred Liu, @pos Product Manager. "This device represents one of the most cost-effective solutions available today for creating customer interaction at the point-of-sale."

@pos expects to begin shipping a production version of the TX.C in November of this year.

"@pos has an established history of technology leadership, which we have been able to maintain by listening to the marketplace. The TX.C is the first in a series of fully integrated transaction terminals that continue this tradition," said Dennis Kraft, Vice President of Sales. "The color display, an improved ergonomic design, the EMV compliant smart card reader and the benefits of full Windows(R) CE(R) programmability have all been priorities of our customers. Based on advance feedback from key customers, we are confident that the TX.C is the right product at the right time."

Advanced Payment Features

The @pos TX.C fully integrates the latest advancements in payment processing in a streamlined ergonomically designed device. By integrating debit, credit, smart card and electronic payment processing into a single device, the point-of-sale transaction, as well as back office operation, is completely streamlined.

Tamper Proof Security

In addition to its streamlined payment processing capabilities, the TX.C has been designed to include a standard hardware security circuitry module within the device's single PCB (printed circuit board). Sensitive data such as a PIN number and credit card account information is encrypted at the point it enters the security module and protected throughout the transaction process. Tamper resistance features detect and trigger the erasing of cryptographic keys and transaction data for full transaction security.

Expansion and Connectivity for the Future

The TX.C includes several features to assist merchants as they prepare for future payment processing options. As a proximity payment device (IrDA), m-Commerce (mobile commerce) transactions may be beamed with transaction payment devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) or mobile phones. Smart cards for payment and in-store loyalty and promotional programs are supported by an enclosed smart card reader, which complies with EMV Level 1 mandate. Optional Internet connectivity is available through a Type II PCMCIA expansion slot.

Complete Software Integration Support

IBM tailgate protocol (RS-485), RS-232 or USB ports support integration with a variety of legacy environments. The high performance modular Windows(R) CE(R) embedded operating system supports rapid development and deployment for new POS programs. The device's firmware enables the color screen display, as well as providing full backwards compatibility with @pos' existing transaction terminals. The optional TX software family incorporates industry point-of-sale standards and provides easy custom integration in a PC or IBM host environment. Developers are able to use C/C++, Java or Visual Basic to quickly program transaction processing functions.
