Ericsson chosen by Svenska UMTS Nät AB as sole supplier for its 3G- network in Sweden

Ericsson has been selected by Svenska UMTS Nät AB, the joint venture between Tele2 and Telia, as sole supplier for its UMTS network in Sweden. This is the world's first shared UMTS-network and this Letter of Intent (LoI) includes delivery and implementation of Ericsson's advanced UMTS core and radio access network equipment.

"We choose Ericsson as sole supplier because they are able to provide us with an excellent solution for a shared network," said Henrik Ringmar, CEO, Svenska UMTS Nät AB. "This solution will give Svenska UMTS Nät AB the ability to build a UMTS network in Sweden."

"We are very proud that Svenska UMTS Nät has selected Ericsson," said Mats Dahlin, head of Ericsson Mobile Systems.

Ericsson was the first to introduce technologies for sharing 3G networks and has the industry's most comprehensive set of solutions.

"We see this agreement as a confirmation of Ericsson's ! strength in building shared networks, a solution that will have great impact in speeding up the introduction of 3G globally," said Mats Dahlin.

The UMTS network for Svenska UMTS Nät AB will be built according to WCDMA, which is the globally dominating standard for 3G.
