Fujitsu PC Corporation (FPC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Limited (TSE:6702), today announced the selection of Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR)(TSE:SW.) as its preferred supplier of wireless wide-area network (WAN) hardware solutions.
As part of FPC's wireless initiative, the Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 300 and Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 400 network interface cards (NIC) will be available as connectivity solutions for FPC's award-winning line of LifeBook(TM) notebook and Stylistic(TM) pen tablet PCs. Sierra Wireless' AirCard wireless network cards provide the choice of two different wireless technologies on three different networks, Verizon and AT&T Wireless' networks, using Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) or Metricom's Ricochet network.
This signals FPC's continued commitment to provide its customers with a central location to purchase a complete mobile computing solution, including wireless networking hardware and access capabilities. Customers will be able to purchase the wireless solutions directly from FPC or through its value added resellers (VARs) and system integrators.
"FPC has selected Sierra Wireless, a leader and innovator in creating wireless products, to ensure its customers are presented with leading-edge wireless connectivity solutions that enhance the overall functionality of our LifeBook notebooks and Stylistic pen tablet PCs," said Sara Nelson, vice president of marketing. "We are confident Sierra Wireless' unique blend of engineering, technological and support expertise will allow FPC's customers to easily communicate and work untethered."
"There is an increasing demand from businesses and consumers for secure and seamless wireless connectivity and Sierra Wireless is committed to developing complete solutions with leaders such as Fujitsu," said Mark McMillan, vice president of marketing for Sierra Wireless. "The combination of Sierra Wireless AirCard modems with FPC's LifeBook notebooks and Stylistic pen tablet PCs result in increased productivity for the mobile worker, allowing them to connect to the information they need, whenever they need it."
The Sierra Wireless AirCard 400 is a wide-area wireless network interface card (NIC) designed specifically for the Ricochet 128 kbps network for use in laptops, pen tablet PCs, Internet appliances and Pocket PCs with a PCMCIA Type II slot. The Sierra Wireless AirCard 400 wireless network card combines innovative power management to maximize the computing device's battery life with industry leading performance and reliability. This combination provides users with high-speed, reliable wireless access to enterprise networks, corporate applications and the Internet at speeds that are three to four times faster than an analog dial-up connection found in most homes.
The Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 wireless network card consumes minimal power and is "always on", allowing clients to stay connected to the Internet as if working in the office, with no dial-up required. The Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 wireless network card uses CDPD technology to ensure reliable wireless access to mail, data, corporate applications and the Internet, ensuring that clients get the information they need while working away from the office.
