GTRAN Wireless and BlueKite Form Alliance to Provide Faster Mobile Internet Access

BlueKite Platform to Enhance Speed of GTRAN's DotSurfer 1XRTT PC Modem Card

GTRAN Wireless, Inc., a designer and developer of wireless transmission products, today announced a strategic alliance with BlueKite.com, a leading mobile Internet software provider, to enhance data rates using GTRAN's DotSurfer(TM) wireless pc modem card. BlueKite's technology will further increase the current high-speed data rates DotSurfer(TM) provides to laptops and laptops and PDAs, while enabling efficient use of constrained wireless spectrum.

GTRAN Wireless also announced the launch of its DotSurfer(TM) 153K family of PCMCIA Type II data cards earlier this year. Three versions of the card (800MHz, 1700MHz, 1900MHz) are available to address the different operating bands in the Americas and Asia. "We have achieved raw data speeds in the 80Kb/s-120Kb/s range in a mobile environment," said Deepak Mehrotra, president and CEO of GTRAN Wireless. "With BlueKite's optimization software we expect to exceed effective speeds of 250Kb/s. This provides our customers an untethered multimedia experience on a laptop or a PDA. We are running trials with a number of CDMA carriers and expect production deployment to start in Q3, 2001."

The BlueKite client software will be bundled with the GTRAN solution providing faster, more efficient mobile Internet access to users in several Asian markets. Major U.S. and European mobile operators have already deployed BlueKite's optimization software, which allows users to access the rich content of the full Internet at speeds equivalent to or better than 56kbps fixed-line modems. This enhanced speed enables a mobile Internet experience similar to what users enjoy in their homes or offices. Beyond providing higher access speeds, BlueKite's technology also enhances the efficiency of packet-switched networks by an average of eight times, helping service providers more efficiently utilize highly valuable and limited spectrum in delivering mobile Internet services.

"The GTRAN Wireless partnership will enable BlueKite to help deliver affordable, high-performance, and easy-to-use Internet services to end users in virtually every world market," said Robin Abrams, president and CEO of BlueKite. "Furthermore, the seamless integration of the software makes having a mobile device enabled for fast and reliable wireless Internet access extremely easy for any type of user."

Last August, GTRAN Wireless was the world's first company to launch a true PCMCIA Type II data card solution for Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) IS-95 systems. Deployed on Korea Telecom Freetel's network, DotSurfer(TM) has been very successful in providing wireless Internet access at 64Kb/s (IS-95B).
