Motorola and iAnywhere Solutions Extend Enterprise Information to Java Technology-Enabled Mobile Phones

Mobile application developers at the JavaOne(SM) Developer Conference will be able to preview new innovations designed to extend corporate information to Java technology-enabled mobile phones as shown by Motorola (NYSE: MOT) and iAnywhere Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase Inc. (NYSE: SY). The companies will demonstrate an application that enables "always available" access to corporate data stored locally on Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology-enabled mobile phones during the conference June 4-8 at San Francisco's Moscone Center.

The demonstration illustrates how a Motorola i85s handset, the first J2ME technology-enabled handset in North America, can quickly bring corporate knowledge to mobile professionals when they are out of the office. The technology leverages iAnywhere Solutions' industry leading m-business platform to provide mobile access to enterprise databases and applications. The field response application being demonstrated enables mobile business professionals to interact with a list of pending service calls directly from their mobile phones, even when the phone is outside wireless coverage areas. The mobile worker can record changes to the job status locally on the device and synchronize the updates once the user returns to the network coverage area.

"Remote access to corporate data has become a necessity for mobile workers," said Peter Aloumanis, vice president and director, U.S. Operations, Motorola's iDEN Subscriber Group. "Through the joint efforts of Motorola and iAnywhere Solutions, professionals in the field can query and access the critical corporate data they need, when they need it, using the same digital wireless handset they use for their business and personal communications."

"Over the last decade, iAnywhere Solutions has pioneered mobile access to enterprise data from laptops, handheld devices and smart phones, providing a key competitive advantage to businesses," said Rob Veitch, director of business development at iAnywhere Solutions. "Our joint efforts with Motorola to bring corporate data access from Java technology-enabled handsets will allow users to respond more quickly and effectively from the field, from their homes, or wherever their business may take them."

Always Available Access to Locally Stored Data: Critical for Mobile Enterprise Computing

iAnywhere Solutions' m-Business platform gives mobile workers the unique ability to work either online or offline so they have expanded access to their data and corporate applications that are stored locally on a J2ME technology- enabled device. This is a critical capability in the current wireless landscape, where cost, bandwidth, signal availability, and signal quality present significant issues. Such access is essential for organizations to keep their mobile workers productive with the information they need, when they need it, while reducing costs associated with connection times. Incorporating new Java technologies for handheld devices into iAnywhere Solutions' m-Business platform greatly simplifies the development and deployment of these always available applications across multiple devices.
