Motorola Is 'First To Reality' With Java(TM) Technology-Enabled Mobile Communication Solutions At JavaOne(SM) Developer Conference

Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announced its leadership in wireless Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology with new products for worldwide markets, applications, developer support programs, and partnerships. These solutions are being demonstrated during the JavaOne(SM) Developer Conference, June 4-8 in Booth #1615 at San Francisco's Moscone Center.

Motorola, in close cooperation with Sun Microsystems, helped develop J2ME technology through participation in the Java Community Process(SM) (JCP). This technology allows third-party developers to write applications for mobile devices regardless of the operating system software. Motorola continues to expand the opportunities for developers to create applications for J2ME technology-enabled devices.

"The J2ME platform will continue to be an important platform for wireless products and for developers," said George Paolini, vice president, technology evangelism and marketing, Sun Microsystems. "Motorola's commitment to Java technology is evident in its products, programs and partnerships."

"The long-term promise of J2ME technology lies in its ability to create a more dynamic platform for client-side functionality in mobile devices," said Bryan Prohm, senior analyst, mobile communications at Gartner Dataquest. "J2ME technology will nurture the development of richer sets of consumer, enterprise and carrier applications and services for both public and private networks."
