OmniSky Demonstrates Bluetooth Solution Using Motorola Timeport 270c Mobile Phone at PC Expo

OmniSky Corporation (Nasdaq: OMNY), a leading global provider of award-winning wireless applications and services, used the PC Expo forum today to demonstrate the OmniSky wireless e-mail and Internet service delivered to a PDA using Bluetooth technology. OmniSky is delivering its wireless service on a Palm Vx equipped with the OmniSky Bluetooth adapter, by way of the Bluetooth-enabled Motorola Timeport 270c mobile phone. The OmniSky service enables users to send and receive corporate and personal e-mail, interact with a wealth of websites optimized for a handheld device, and conduct secure e-commerce transactions. The demonstration, which uses the CDMA wireless network, will be available during PC Expo in the OmniSky booth (no. 4422).

Bluetooth is an emerging technology solution that wirelessly links mobile phones, mobile computers and other portable handheld devices. The OmniSky Bluetooth solution helps simplify subscribers' wireless experience. It eliminates the need to carry a wireless modem and charger for the Palm Vx, since the mobile phone is used as the wireless modem. The phone can also be used as the modem for other devices, such as the user's laptop. In addition, a single account can be used for the mobile phone and the wireless data devices.

OmniSky has been committed to aggressively supporting Bluetooth solutions, demonstrating the OmniSky service delivered over the GSM/GPRS network in Europe using a GPRS Bluetooth phone at CeBIT. OmniSky is a member of the Bluetooth SIG, which is the industry organization formed to facilitate adoption of the Bluetooth technology. The company expects to offer a Bluetooth solution in the United States in Q4, 2001.

"Our goal is for the OmniSky service to be available on a wide variety of mobile devices and wireless networks, providing a consistent, high-quality experience in each instance," said Patrick McVeigh, OmniSky chairman and chief executive officer. "This demonstration shows our continued commitment to Bluetooth, a technology that can help propel wireless services forward, as well as our momentum in platform, device and network expansion."

OmniSky has shown the capabilities of its service running on the CDPD, GSM/GPRS, and CDMA wireless networks. The OmniSky service currently supports a wide variety of Palm OS devices from Palm and Handspring, and Pocket PC devices from Compaq, HP and Casio. OmniSky has demonstrated solutions for the HP Pavilion notebook PC, and mobile phones such as the Kyocera Smartphone, the Motorola Timeport 270c and the Sanyo SCP-5000.

OmniSky's wireless e-mail and Internet service is available directly to subscribers in the United States and in Europe. OmniSky also offers a wireless applications and services platform, which is a complete set of hosted modular applications and services designed to enable telecommunications carriers, online service providers, hardware manufacturers, and others to rapidly deploy next-generation wireless services to their customers. OmniSky's wireless applications and services help these providers create a competitive advantage and reduce the time required to deliver innovative wireless services that users value. By offering a wireless services platform that is open and supports multiple networks and a wide variety of mobile devices, OmniSky ensures that these providers have the flexibility to offer their customers unique services on the devices and networks they choose.
