Proxim Offers Wireless Network Connectivity Solution for Compaq and Casio Pocket PCs

Delivers Reliable Wireless Connectivity and the Low-Power Consumption Needed for Enterprise Pocket PC-Based Applications

Proxim, Inc. (Nasdaq:PROX), the pioneer in wireless broadband networking, today announced a new wireless connectivity solution for Pocket PCs that delivers the reliability and low power consumption that enterprises need for robust mobile applications. Proxim's Harmony(TM) CompactFlash(TM) Card connects Compaq iPAQ and Casio(R) Cassiopeia(TM) E125 Pocket PCs wirelessly to the enterprise LAN. With low power consumption and high immunity to interference, the Harmony CompactFlash Card is ideal for mobile computing in hospitals, universities and other enterprise environments.

"Wireless connectivity and Windows Powered(TM) devices are key elements in the growing number of mobile enterprise solutions," said Douglas Dedo, lead product manager in the Mobility Division at Microsoft Corporation. "This exciting, new Harmony CompactFlash Card expands the options for wirelessly connected Pocket PCs in a more compact and lightweight form."

Proxim's Harmony CompactFlash Card allows mobile professionals to send and receive e-mail, use the Internet and access network resources on their Pocket PCs. The card uses the OpenAir(TM) wireless standard, which consumes minimal power, making it ideal for mobile applications. OpenAir also uses frequency-hopping technology, enabling many devices to work in the same area without interference.

"Two things are essential to a successful handheld technology: a convenient form factor and easy connectivity," said Lynn Chroust, director of Proxim's Commercial Networks Business Unit. "By extending our Harmony wireless infrastructure to the convenient CompactFlash format, Proxim continues to take the lead in delivering the lightest, smallest and most flexible options for business and professional users."

The CompactFlash Card is part of the Harmony product family. Harmony, with its flexible, multi-standard wireless architecture, embraces all current wireless LAN standards, including OpenAir and IEEE 802.11b today, as well as IEEE 802.11a and other standards tomorrow. With Harmony, enterprises can easily and inexpensively deploy and scale heterogeneous wireless networks.

Availability

Proxim's Harmony 7630 OpenAir CompactFlash(TM) Card will be available in mid-July for a retail price of $149.
