Sagem selects packetvideo’s leading mpeg-4 technology to enable rich media streaming to new gprs wireless internet device

PacketVideo Brings Rich Media to Sagem’s Breakthrough GPRS Wireless Internet Device

SAGEM has selected PacketVideo Corporation, the recognized leader in software for the delivery of rich media over today’s wireless networks, to integrate its MPEG-4 rich media playing software, PVPlayer™, into the SAGEM WA3050, one of the world’s first integrated GPRS mobile phone and Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices.

“PacketVideo’s experience in the wireless multimedia arena and its commitment to standards have been invaluable in providing the WA3050 with a powerful and flexible multimedia playing capability,” said SAGEM. “PacketVideo’s MPEG-4 PVPlayer allows us to adopt industry standard technology, enabling us to easily cooperate with rich media application and content companies to ensure that WA3050 users have access to the best in mobile video.”

“The powerful combination of SAGEM’s new device and our PVPlayer running over a GPRS network demonstrates a new degree of versatility for mobile devices, providing consumers not only mobility and access, but a rich media experience,” said Jim Cook, general manager of PacketVideo Europe. “This partnership will enable mobile users to gain access to compelling rich media services such as news and financial information, sports, weather, traffic reports, short entertainment clips, and music. This partnership also demonstrates that mobile video is not limited to UMTS network implementation.”

PVPlayer, one component of PacketVideo’s PVPlatform™ end-to-end wireless multimedia solution, decodes rich digital media for viewing on mobile devices. PVPlayer is designed to support multiple operating systems, including Microsoft’s Pocket PC. The standards-based decoding software is optimized for the mobile environment and can be delivered over any wireless data network.

The WA3050 is a GPRS/GSM integrated phone, personal organizer and pocket PC all rolled into one attractively styled, light, slim and user-friendly device. The WA3050 allows mobile users to collect and read e-mail, browse the web through Pocket Explorer, playback MP3 files and use advanced PDA functions, such as address books, calendaring and note taking.
