Spain’s mobile market leader is to offer RIOT-E’ s X-Men mobile game

Riot Entertainment (RIOT-E, www.riot-e.com), the global leader in wireless entertainment today announced that it has partnered with Telefónica Móviles España (www.telefonicamovilesespana.com), Spain’s number one mobile operator, to bring RIOT-E’s successful X-Men mobile game to Telefónica MoviStar subscribers.

RIOT-E’s X-Men mobile game, the first fruit of the wireless entertainment publisher’s partnership with Marvel Enterprises Inc., has attracted thousands of players in deployments across the globe. First launched in Italy (with operator Telecom Italia Mobile) and Finland (with operator Radiolinja) in last quarter 2000, the X-Men game generated one million mobile originated (MO) messages in two months.

In March 2001, RIOT-E launched the X-Men game with Philippine operator Globe, attracting close to 17,000 users and generating almost 700,000 mobile originated SMS messages to date. In Japan, RIOT-E’s pay-per-download service has attracted over 200,000 downloads of Marvel characters and images by subscribers to Japan’s Big Three operators.

With Telefónica Móviles España, RIOT-E has developed a WAP version of the X-Men game for the operator’s e-moción platform. E-moción is a wireless Internet service provider (WISP) that offers more than 160 basic and premium content services for GSM and GPRS customers.

Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing at RIOT-E, Darrell Purviance, said: “Adding Telefónica to our fast growing roster of operator partners is a major coup for RIOT-E. Besides its global reputation for its innovation in wireless services, Telefónica is the biggest player in a market with over 25 million mobile subscribers, giving us the perfect foundation for a strong and successful relationship.”
