Stonestreet One to Provide Bluetooth Technology Platform, Software, and System Integration Support to Hitachi Semiconductor

Stonestreet One, a U.S.-based provider of Bluetooth products and engineering services, announced today that Stonestreet One will provide Bluetooth solutions to Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc. including platform, software and system integration support to Hitachi Semiconductor and its customers.

In support of the Bluetooth technology, Stonestreet One provides an easy to use, cost-effective DP Series Bluetooth Developer's Kit by integrating Silicon Wave's radio modem and link controller, and Hitachi's H8 series baseband controller chipset on a hardware platform. Stonestreet One's hardware platform uses Taiyo Yuden's Bluetooth module which integrates the chipset. Additionally, the kit also includes a complete set of hardware to support connections for exchanging digital data.

"We are proud to work with Hitachi," said Dick Smith, President of Stonestreet One. "We believe the middleware and other Bluetooth tools that Stonestreet One can provide will greatly enhance and extend Hitachi's solutions to their customers. Additionally, Stonestreet One possesses the engineering expertise to assist in providing a total Bluetooth design package and system integration service to Hitachi's customers."

Hitachi's 16-bit microcontrollers, the H8S/2214F and H8S/2238 designed specifically for Bluetooth applications, are targeted toward handheld portable devices like mobile phones, palm-sized and pocket PCs, data terminals, notebook PCs, PCMCIA cards, car infotainment systems, digital cameras and stationary devices like set-top boxes and wireless network cards. Stonestreet One's ability to provide chip level system integration service and software will allow more Hitachi customers to quickly add Bluetooth technology to their products.

"With Stonestreet One's Bluetooth Developer's Kit, customers can easily develop software and other Bluetooth products on a single platform equipped with all required hardware components," said Steve Imsen, director of Segment Marketing at Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc. "The combination of a radio modem, link controller and our baseband controller in a developer's kit offers customers a way to work with Bluetooth technology."

Bluetooth is an open standard for cable-free communication of data and voice based on a short-range radio link. Designed to facilitate the connections for both stationary and mobile communication environments, the link is unimpeded by line of site restrictions.

Stonestreet One, based in Louisville, Kentucky, designs, develops, and integrates embedded systems and wireless data applications for a diverse group of customers including leading companies in industries such as computer hardware, mobile communications, food service equipment, biomedical devices and material handling systems. The company, an Associate Member of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, specializes in Bluetooth technology, offering engineering services, hardware for developers and end users, and a BQB listed Bluetooth Protocol stack.
