TDK Systems Licenses Bluetooth for Windows Software From WIDCOMM

Strategic Alliance to Focus on High-Performance Bluetooth Peripherals for PC Industry

WIDCOMM Inc., a leader in short-range wireless communications and networking based on the Bluetooth(TM) wireless standard, and TDK Systems, a leading company specializing in design, development and marketing of products for the wired and wireless markets, today announced a licensing agreement to incorporate WIDCOMM's Bluetooth for Windows(R) (BTW) software stack in TDK Systems' product line of peripherals for personal computers, including PC cards and USB adapters. Under the terms of the agreement, TDK Systems has licensed WIDCOMM's Bluetooth Protocol Software for Windows (BTW) to use with a variety of PC cards, USB modules and USB dongles in multiple form factors. TDK Systems products provide PC OEMs, as well as contract manufacturers, full Bluetooth functionality for desktop computers.

WIDCOMM's BTW software is a complete communications software solution that provides Bluetooth wireless technology for the Windows platform. In May 2001, WIDCOMM's BTW was certified by the official Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) for compliance with the requirements of the Bluetooth Specification version 1.1, and BTW supports all currently available software profiles for Windows.

TDK Systems offers a Bluetooth USB adapter that conveniently plugs directly into the USB port and allows users to access other Bluetooth devices as well as to connect to fixed PSTN or ISDN lines over a wireless Bluetooth link. TDK Systems' Bluetooth PC card provides a high performance Bluetooth 1.1 compliant connection from a laptop or handheld computer to a Bluetooth enabled phone, data point or other Bluetooth equipped device.

"TDK Systems believes that interoperability is critical for Bluetooth success. We're working with WIDCOMM because they develop interoperable Bluetooth wireless software and hardware that is available here and now," said Nick Hunn, TDK Systems' managing director.

"This WIDCOMM and TDK Systems alliance offers a strong competitive advantage because we are combining our core competencies," commented Andreas Malzach, WIDCOMM vice president of software business and general manager of WIDCOMM Europe. "TDK Systems excels in the world of telecommunications and computing, while WIDCOMM's expertise is in Bluetooth solutions. The collaboration will result in a range of new Bluetooth connectivity options for an ever-growing PC market."
