Transilica Demonstrates Simultaneous Voice and Data Across the Industry's Smallest Qualified Bluetooth Software Stack

Small Size and Efficiency of OneChip(TM) Reduce Overall Cost of Bluetooth Solutions

Transilica Inc., an innovation leader in wireless silicon design, demonstrated for the first time simultaneous voice and data communication across the world's smallest system-on-chip solution, OneChip(TM), at the recent Bluetooth Congress 2001, the world's largest Bluetooth exhibition and the official event of the Special Interest Group.

In the demonstration, the OneChip was used to simultaneously play a CD to wireless speakers and to send contact addresses wirelessly from a PDA to a notebook.

OneChip is the world's smallest system-on-chip solution to provide complete Bluetooth functionality, including flash memory. OneChip combines all Bluetooth components including the RF transceiver, baseband modem, microprocessor, SRAM and flash memory into an eight-millimeter square BGA chip package. In the demonstration, OneChip carried the complete headset and serial port profiles, in addition to the full lower and upper layer stacks, within the 64KB baseband flash memory size.

"The OneChip is a real innovation and advancement for Bluetooth. Because Transilica's fully qualified Bluetooth protocol stack requires less than 60KB of flash memory, it significantly reduces the total cost for a Bluetooth solution in terms of silicon real estate," said Transilica Chief Executive Officer Hock Law. "Transilica's ability to deliver superior technology to exact specifications is evidenced by the expeditious introduction of this breakthrough design."

Transilica developed its own stacks and profiles for embedding in its OneChip system-on-chip products. Patents are pending for the breakthrough micro-kernel code used for Transilica's software solutions. OneChip represents the industry's highest level of integration for both silicon and software design.

Pricing and Availability

Transilica will reach volume production of the OneChip in Q4 2001. Evaluation kits are available for $950.00.
