Pico Communications to Work With Palm to Provide Bluetooth Connectivity for Mobile Professionals

Relationship Will Help Palm Handheld Users to Wirelessly Access Local Bluetooth Networks

Pico Communications Inc., a provider of simplified personal networking solutions for Bluetooth devices and an associate member of Bluetooth SIG, today announced an alliance with Palm Inc. to allow mobile professionals to stay securely connected to their corporate Local Area Network (LAN) and the Internet at work, on the road, and in the home with Pico's PicoBlue(TM) Internet Access Point and any Bluetooth-enabled Palm(TM) handheld computer.

"Working with Pico is another way for Palm to provide mobile professionals with seamless wireless connectivity," said John Cook, senior director of product marketing at Palm Inc. "PicoBlue's interoperability with Palm products combined with its solutions for wireless enterprise connectivity makes this new relationship very promising for the growing Palm Economy."

The PicoBlue(TM) Internet Access Point is a complete Bluetooth access point with integrated servers and networking features required for IP enterprise networking over Ethernet. PicoBlue(TM) was the first Class One point-to-multipoint access point to achieve 1.1 certification from the Bluetooth Qualification Body in June 2001. It can manage up to seven simultaneous links, allowing seven users to share access to the Internet at one time.

"The ability for mobile professionals to stay constantly connected to corporate networks and access real-time information is critical in today's quickly-changing business climate," said Dr. Lung Yeh, president and CEO of Pico Communications. "We're excited to work with an industry leader like Palm to meet the growing demand for enterprise-class Bluetooth wireless solutions."
