U.S. Air Force Partners with Aether Systems to Provide Officers with Mobile Access to Email and Productivity Applications

Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:AETH) a leading provider of wireless data products and services, today announced that the U.S. Air Force has deployed the company's ScoutSync(TM) server technology and BlackBerry(TM) by Aether,(TM) an end-to-end wireless email solution for RIM Wireless Handhelds(TM) that includes Aether's value-added services.

Senior personnel stationed at the Tyndall Air Force Base (AFB) in Florida and officers at the Langley AFB in Virginia utilize the technologies to securely access e-mail and personal information management (PIM) applications while traveling.

After prototyping Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) equipped with ScoutSync a year ago, Tyndall AFB expanded the deployment in June to provide access to email applications via Palm and PocketPC handheld devices. Langley AFB began reaping similar benefits in June after licensing the BlackBerry by Aether wireless email solution.

By using ScoutSync or BlackBerry by Aether, officers frequently en route to other military bases, meetings and events can easily and securely access all the information they obtain back at the office using Microsoft Exchange. They send and receive e-mail, schedule appointments, manage contacts and documents and plan tasks on a device that is significantly smaller and less expensive than a laptop.
