Altiris Extends Native SMS Integration with Web-based Products for Mobile Users, UNIX Clients and New Helpdesk Suite for SMS

All new product suites include new version of Web Admin for SMS to give customers access to Microsoft SMS functions from any browser or wireless device

Altiris(R) Inc., a leader in systems management solutions that reduce the total cost of owning information technology, Wednesday announced three new product suites that natively extend and enhance Microsoft's Systems Management Server (SMS) functionality.

All of the new suites include a new version of Altiris Web Admin for SMS that allows administrators access to all SMS functions from any Web browser. The new version of Web Admin for SMS is also the only solution to allow access to SMS functions through a Windows CE or Pocket PC device giving customers even more flexibility when managing SMS workstations.

The new fully integrated Altiris SMS product suites include: Mobile Client for SMS; Unix Client for SMS; and Helpdesk for SMS, the first Web-based helpdesk solution specifically designed for SMS. These products increase Altiris' leadership as a premier SMS solutions provider.

"These new product suites allow customers to capitalize on their investment in SMS," said Poul Nielsen, vice president, product Sstrategy, Altiris Inc. "They include one of our hallmark technologies which is native SMS integration. This means that SMS administrators have only a single infrastructure to manage.

"The ROI is immediate because SMS administrator and helpdesk workers do not have to be tied to their desktops to access SMS functions. In addition training costs are reduced as well as the time it takes to complete tasks."

Web Admin for SMS

Altiris Web Admin for SMS is a Web console for SMS that gives customers the ability to manage their SMS environment from any Web browser. It includes Altiris Notification Server so that notification policies can be set, and Web reports and site status reports can be generated quickly and easily. It is virtually the only solution that allows SMS management also from a Windows CE handheld device.

"Today we can fix problems from our desk, on the road or from anywhere thanks to Web Admin," said Jan Case, technology consultant, NCR. "Now I can spend more time focusing on our responsibility and hunt down small problems more quickly. My time is more productive and I get more done. This all adds to lower our systems management costs."

The price per seat starts at $3 for 100 units with additional volume discounts.

Mobile Client for SMS

With the Mobile Client for SMS, Microsoft SMS administrators can manage their remote and mobile systems as effectively as their LAN clients. It offers robust inventory and software delivery capabilities as well as Web administration and Web reporting. It supports Windows 95, 98 and 2000 operating systems.

"Customers want great solutions to manage their mobile environments and reduce total cost of ownership," said David Hamilton, director, product management, Microsoft Corp. "The combination of Systems Management Server and Altiris' Mobile Client for SMS provides a complete solution for mobile and remote users running Windows-based environments."
