Diversinet to Enhance Security in Sona's Wireless Platform

Sona Licenses Diversinet's Advanced Security to Provide Authentication and Non-Repudiation in Wireless Financial Applications

Diversinet Corp. (NASDAQ Small Cap: DVNT), a leading provider of mobile commerce (m-commerce) security infrastructure solutions, and Sona Innovations Inc., a wireless application development company, today announced that Sona will license Diversinet's security software to enable advanced security it its wireless financial and gaming applications.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sona will license Diversinet's Passport Certificate Server(R) wireless security product to enhance the security features in Sona's existing and future wireless applications.

The addition of Diversinet-enabled digital certificates and digital signatures in Sona's wireless financial and gaming applications enhances the security features beyond the privacy and confidentiality that encryption provides. Digital signatures provide accountability by verifying the identity of users, binds the identity of a user to the transaction so that knowledge of the transaction cannot later be denied, and proves that data transmitted wirelessly has not been tampered with in transit. These supplementary security features are important in wireless financial transactions where substantial monetary risk and liability are present.

The Diversinet-Sona relationship is a natural fit because of Sona's strength in the financial and gaming sector and both companies' strong commitment to being at the forefront of secure wireless technology.

"Our relationship with Sona is a key step to progressing the implementation of our security infrastructure," said Nick Darwish, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Diversinet Corp. "Sona is a valuable application provider with established applications in wireless gaming and stock trading applications. Our relationship with Sona will provide us with an additional channel to enable our technology in key vertical markets."

"Data is typically encrypted then decrypted at the WAP gateway, which has inherent security risks," said David Quinn Vice President, Sales and Marketing of Sona Innovations. "The advanced architecture of Sona's technology is unique, as it does not use public gateway servers - it establishes a secure session on the handheld device, communicating directly with the secure server. The addition of Diversinet's wireless security will facilitate additional security features such as user/server authentication and the non-repudiation of transactions."
