Intermec Technologies Pocket PC Handheld Computers To Support Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 Mobile Platform

Award-Winning 700 Series Rugged Pocket PC Family Ideal for Enterprise Applications

Intermec Technologies Corp., a Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 software launch partner specializing in rugged, mobile computing systems, confirmed today that it will support the next generation of Pocket PC software, scheduled to be unveiled October 4.

Intermec's 700 Series, a rugged handheld computer introduced earlier this year, runs the Pocket PC platform. The 700 Series was named by an independent panel as the best handheld/PDA device at the recent Field Enterprise Solutions 2001 trade show. Entrants were judged on innovation, end-user ROI and quantifiable customer satisfaction. Its rugged design and powerful capabilities are making it an indispensable business tool for enterprise users and industries worldwide.

"Intermec is a leader in the ruggedized mobile device market, and we are delighted that Intermec will be supporting the Pocket PC 2002 platform," said Doug Dedo, manager of mobility marketing at Microsoft Corp. "Intermec is demonstrating its expertise in mobile computing and its willingness to listen to customers by combining an award-winning industrial design with integrated wireless connectivity that empowers the mobile workforce."

The 700 Series, now available with a powerful 64 MB of RAM (approximately 45-48 MB available for customer use), is based on Microsoft Windows operating system software for Pocket PC and on industry standards such as the 802.11b wireless LAN standard, and it supports Microsoft SQL Server CE Edition. The 700 Series is designed to protect customers' technology investment, whether used to provide wireless, real-time capabilities to entire fleets of mobile and enterprise workers or to fuel on-the-go warehouse and retail applications.

"Intermec, which designed its ruggedized computer products solely on Microsoft operating platforms, is committed to bringing its enterprise customers and partners the power and ease of use of Microsoft-based devices," said Intermec Vice President Richard Mahany, who leads Intermec's product development groups.

"In a world of unproven newcomers to mobile computers and handheld enterprises, Microsoft recognizes Intermec is the seasoned, leading innovator," said Kate Rafferty-Coronado, who leads Intermec's Microsoft initiatives. "Intermec's work with Microsoft has one laser focus: to seamlessly provide our joint customers with the technologies they require now and tomorrow."
