Lincoln Neb. Purchases Additional Wireless Solutions from Aether, Building on PacketCluster Mobile Data Foundation

Government and Law Enforcement Officials View Demonstrations of the Latest Wireless and Mobile Technologies from Aether at Ribbon-Cutting

Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:AETH) a leading provider of wireless data products and services, announced Lincoln, Neb. plans to purchase additional wireless solutions to build on its PacketCluster mobile data foundation.

Aether will demonstrate StopTracker(TM), a wireless data collection, reporting and analysis application designed to meet the requirements of new racial profiling legislation, such as those recently passed in Nebraska.

In addition, Lincoln officials will outline the city's plans to purchase additional products from Aether that will enhance officer safety and efficiency, including the company's PocketBlue(TM) handheld application and PacketWriter(R) data collection and field reporting software. Lincoln has already deployed Aether's PacketCluster(TM) wireless query and messaging application.

"We have come to depend on Aether's PacketCluster for critical access to a wide range of valuable information. Our officers now access this data when they need it the most and without delay," said Sgt. Todd Beam, Lincoln, NE Police Department. "Now that racial profiling legislation has been enacted in Nebraska, our next logical step is to adopt Aether's StopTracker application, which we have been beta testing for several months. Our experience with Aether gives us the confidence to extend mobile data to our foot and bike patrols with PocketBlue and to provide them with remote data collection and reporting capabilities with PacketWriter."

A Complete Mobile Office for Public Safety

Lincoln intends to augment its PacketCluster mobile data system with the following applications from Aether:

Aether StopTracker: Running on both handheld and laptop computers, StopTracker helps police command staff proactively manage how they engage with the public. StopTracker captures all critical information for vehicle stops and other citizen encounters. Officers have the ability to quickly record the individual's race, gender, age, reason for stop, the type of contact made, vehicle and search information and any property seized. Police command staff can then take this information and track and audit the performance of their department.

Aether PocketBlue: Aether's handheld software for mobile law enforcement ensures both in-vehicle and out-of-vehicle personnel, as well as headquarters, are integrated into the agency's mobile data system. Detectives and patrol officers can wirelessly access the National Crime Information Center, National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System and the Department of Motor Vehicles databases, over a secure network, to check the status of vehicles, persons, articles and guns, without involving dispatch. A "hit" sends a system-wide alarm to all users, including both handheld and laptop units, as well as dispatch personnel. In addition, digital text messaging support provides secure broadcast of messages and user-to-user communications.

Aether PacketWriter: Aether's remote? data collection and field reporting software enables officers to remain on patrol in the community while completing reporting tasks which previously required trips back to headquarters. Used in conjunction with PacketCluster, PacketWriter improves the accuracy of field interviews, accelerates report preparation, simplifies the review and approval process and ensures complete incident and accident reports. This will enable area agencies to deliver on-time, accurate reports.

"Law enforcement agencies, such as the Lincoln, Nebraska police department, are partnering with Aether to acquire and implement mobile data applications that limit technology obsolescence, reduce the costs of in-house experts and allow more time for safe and productive community policing," said David Rosi, Corporate Vice President, Aether Systems, Mobile Government Division. "Because law enforcement agencies' needs are becoming more complex, even as service expectations grow, Aether greatly simplifies the acquisition of new technologies by offering the most comprehensive set of products and services that operate on virtually any data network, any operating system and any hardware platform."
