New Nokia Artuse Profile Directory launched for effective WAP and MMS service categorization and access management

Nokia today launched the Nokia Artuse Profile Directory, a service and subscriber directory that will enable operators to manage both the subscribe base and service access of fast growing WAP and Multimedia Messaging (MMS) services from a single point.

For subscribers Profile Directory will bring the chance to personalize WAP services according to individual preferences and needs. Also, as Multimedia Messaging (MMS) enters the market, Profile Directory will give mobile handset users greater flexibility in deciding how they want to send and receive MMS messages. The Nokia Artuse Profile Directory will be available for the operator market during fourth quarter, 2001.

Nokia Artuse Profile Directory will enable operators to effectively manage their various subscriber categories, such as business users and corporate customers. In the case of prepaid customers, the Profile Directory can check if the service requires an in-advance credit check to be carried out before the service can be accessed. With its interfaces to the customer care and billing system, Profile Directory allows operators to easily download existing subscriber data to the Profile Directory database, add new subscribers, as well as handle mass downloads of subscriber data.

"As personalization is one of the key drivers in making new mobile services attractive in the eyes of consumers, the Nokia Artuse Profile Directory is designed to allow operators to easily and cost effectively keep track of subscriber and service profiles," says Pekka Salonoja, Vice President, Server Software Products, Nokia, "In this way, operators can manage who can access what services as well as subscribers will be able to tailor the services according individual need."

Profile Directory complements the personalized portals that operators already offer their subscribers. A subscriber can use the self-administration interface to personalize their favourite services. For example, consumers can set the city they live in and receive localised weather reports or the stock ticker for the latest updates of the stock.

Subscribers can also organize several profiles, where the same services can be personalized differently for different occasions. A subscriber might want to have one profile active during the workweek (e.g. hometown weather), another for sailing on the weekends (e.g. sea weather), and another for vacations ( e.g. weather in southern Spain). In addition, Profile Directory enables subscribers to guard their privacy by deciding which services can use the identity and location information. Subscribers will also benefit from being able to block undesired push services.

Nokia Artuse Profile Directory also aids the subscriber by supporting the diversion of MMS messages to an email address or another phone number. This is especially useful if a user prefers not to receive large messages to the mobile device. Profile Directory also enables subscribers to, for example, forward, carbon copy, and bar MMS messages.

Nokia Artuse Profile Directory is network independent and works in all major networks including GSM, TDMA, CDMA, GPRS, and 3G networks. Profile Directory has an open, flexible profile fetch interface to work across various WAP gateway and MMS center solutions.
