Pointsec Mobile Technologies Signs Agreement With ALSTOM Power Sweden AB

Pointsec Mobile Technologies, a subsidiary of IT security company Protect Data (OMX:PROT.), has entered into an agreement with ALSTOM Power Sweden AB in Finspang regarding the supply of the security application Pointsec(TM). The company will be using the security solution to protect important information on its portable computers. The order is estimated to be worth in the region of SEK 1 million out of which one-third relates to deliveries being made during 2001.

The agreement with Pointsec relates in part to licences for the security application Pointsec(TM), as well as to support. ALSTOM Power manufactures and supplies products such as gas and steam turbines, generators, flue-gas cleaning systems and district heating. ALSTOM in Sweden has almost 3,000 employees spread across several companies around the country. The company is part of the global ALSTOM Group that has its main office in Paris.

Pointsec has previously had considerable success within the IT and telecom sector (Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia Marconi, etc.) and among public authorities (the US Department of Justice, the US Department of Defense, etc.). The ALSTOM deal is Pointsec's first major order from an industrial company within the field of advanced manufacturing.

"When you talk about how important it is for companies to invest in IT security, many automatically think of high-tech and various service companies. However, the need for advanced security solutions is just as great within the traditional manufacturing industry. Advanced IT support is used just as much here, and there is naturally the same need to protect valuable and confidential information from unauthorised access," says Jonas Areskoug, Sales Manager for Pointsec in Europe.

Before the signing of the agreement, ALSTOM Power Sweden carried out a six month technical evaluation of Pointsec. In March this year, the product received top marks in a test carried out by SC Magazine, US most widely read security magazine. Pointsec received the comprehensive five star grade (five being the highest) and the accolade 'Best Buy'. In a forthcoming report on security for portable and handheld computers, the US analysis company the Gartner Group also recently named Pointsec as the world leader in the field. According to Gartner, Pointsec is one of the companies best placed to protect the information of large companies and organisations in the mobile age.

Pointsec is a security system that uses encryption to protect all information and software on desktop PCs, portable and handheld computers. Only the user able to give the correct identity and password may access the information on the computer. Pointsec has been developed for large organisations and companies, and is adapted in such a way that it can be simply and cost effectively installed and administered centrally over a network.
