QUALCOMM Joins the WirelessReady Alliance, Sierra Wireless and QUALCOMM Continue to Develop 3G Products for the Enterprise

Sierra Wireless (Nasdaq:SWIR) (TSE:SW.) today announced the addition of QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, to the WirelessReady(TM) Alliance.

The WirelessReady(TM) Alliance (WRA), founded by Sierra Wireless in 1998, is a unique forum where wireless device and application leaders work together to develop wireless data solutions that meet the needs of the growing mobile computing market.

Earlier this year, Sierra Wireless expanded its CDMA subscriber unit license with QUALCOMM to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber equipment for third-generation (3G) CDMA products in order to develop complete wireless products for the enterprise. Sierra Wireless is engineering and building third generation CDMA PC cards and embedded modules that provide mobile workers with the ability to access corporate Intranets, Internet and email at speeds of up to 153 kbps when using laptops and PDAs.

"With the implementation of 3G, it is critical that QUALCOMM work with other leaders to develop complete voice and data wireless solutions," said Jeffrey Belk, senior vice president marketing for QUALCOMM. "The WirelessReady Alliance gives us an opportunity to interact with industry leaders in different wireless markets, share our expertise and create strong partnerships that will deliver value to customers."

The alliance is composed of 50 hardware manufacturers, software application vendors, wireless and value-added enterprise service providers, dedicated to increasing the rate of adoption of mobile computing. The WRA works with the individual members to bring to market complete and compelling wireless data solutions.

"Sierra Wireless is pleased to include QUALCOMM in the WirelessReady Alliance," said Andrew Harries, senior vice-president, corporate development for Sierra Wireless. "As an industry pioneer, QUALCOMM will play an important role in the WRA to develop end-to-end 3G solutions that are customized to meet the unique needs of the enterprise."

Both Sierra Wireless and QUALCOMM are exhibiting at CTIA Wireless I.T., being held from September 12-13, 2001 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego. Sierra Wireless products, including its award-winning line of Sierra Wireless AirCard wireless products, can be viewed at booth #2031, while QUALCOMM digital wireless communications products and service are being demonstrated at booth #1620.
