Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR)(TSE:SW.) today announced the addition of Certicom (NASDAQ:CERT)(TSE:CIC), a leading provider of mobile e-business security, to the WirelessReady(TM) Alliance.

The companies have also reached an agreement to bundle the Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 300 wireless network card with Certicom's movianVPN(TM), that will extend enterprise applications by providing mobile workers with secure wireless network access to enterprise data and e-mail without information being intercepted by unauthorized users.

Sierra Wireless and Certicom's bundled solution consists of Certicom's movianVPN(TM), the industry's first broadly interoperable IPSec wireless virtual private network (VPN) client for handheld devices, and the always-on Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 300 wireless network card that can be used on handhelds and laptops. Certicom's movianVPN(TM) software works on Palm 3.5 and Windows CE 3.0 handheld devices and can communicate with leading VPN gateways from Alcatel, Check Point Software, Cisco, Intel, Nortel Networks, Radguard and Symantec.

"By working with Certicom, Sierra Wireless is strengthening its commitment to develop comprehensive wireless solutions that meet the exact needs of the enterprise," said Andrew Harries, senior vice-president, corporate development for Sierra Wireless. "Certicom's expertise in providing information security software and services for mobile e-business makes them a valuable addition to the WirelessReady Alliance, and ensures that the Alliance continues to bring wireless partners together to increase the rate of wireless adoption."

Founded in 1998 by Sierra Wireless, the WirelessReady Alliance continues to grow in prominence in the wireless industry as world leaders in wireless devices and applications work together to deliver superior wireless data solutions to the growing mobile computing market.

The WirelessReady Alliance is composed of 50 wireless device manufacturers, software application vendors, and wireless and value-added enterprise service providers, all of whom provide products or services that help to enable the delivery of wireless data. WirelessReady Alliance members work together to bring to market complete and compelling wireless data solutions that accelerate the rate of mobile computing and wireless data adoption.

"Wireless connectivity is a key driver for the adoption of enterprise-level wireless data strategies and we believe the combination of movianVPN with Sierra Wireless' leading products will further drive the wide-scale deployment of applications for the fast growing number of mobile workers," said Prakash Panjwani, senior vice president, business development for Certicom. "Joining the WirelessReady Alliance gives Certicom the opportunity to meet with industry peers, share valuable knowledge and develop strong partnerships that will help ensure that we continue to provide secure network access to mobile workers."

Both Sierra Wireless and Certicom are exhibiting at CTIA Wireless I.T., being held from September 12-13, 2001 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego. Demonstrations of Sierra Wireless and Certicom's bundled solution as well as Sierra Wireless' award-winning line of AirCard wireless network cards and Certicom's information security software and services will take place at the Sierra Wireless booth, #2031.
