The Symbol Wireless NetworkerT Brings 11Mbps Wireless Internet to Popular Pocket PC and Notebook Computers
Symbol Technologies, global provider of mobile computing, wireless networking and scanning, has produced the first Wi-Fi certified wireless adapter for Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PCs and notebooks PCs. This Wireless NetworkerT card is currently available in Europe through Symbol's UK distributor, A2000, and in the United States through Symbol's largest distributor Scan Source.
Symbol is the first company to ever receive Wi-Fi certification for an 802.11b wireless LAN adapter in the Type I CompactFlashT form factor. Wireless Networker interoperability with multiple Wi-Fi vendors gives mobile professionals around the globe ultimate flexibility to wirelessly connect to the Internet, from the home, office, or public locations. Pocket PC users can enjoy fast wireless connectivity to surf the Internet, read and send email, access networks and data base information, send instant messages and remotely synchronise with networked PCs for file transfer to Pocket PCs.

Mobile or Portable Device Compatibility
The Wireless Networker supports Pocket PCs with CompactFlash Type I/II slots, with ongoing software development to support Windows based notebook and ultra portable PCs. Specific Pocket PCs include: Compaq iPAQ 3000 series with CF Jacket accessory, or PC Card Jacket Accessory and a CF-to-PC Card adapter; HP Jornada series 540, 560, and 720 series; Casio CASSIOPEIA E-125. Specific PCs will include Windows 95, 98,ME, and 2000- based notebook or ultra-portable PCs with a CF-to-PC card adapter when no CF slot is present. Symbol's Advanced Mobility Features
The Symbol Wireless Networker deploys advanced power management. The product uses Power Save Polling (PSP) to extend battery life by allowing the radio to idle when not active. In addition, to prevent accidental battery drain, the Suspend on WLAN feature allows Pocket PCs to automatically turn off the Wireless Networker based on screen activity when data is not being transmitted. The Symbol product also includes very user-friendly set-up menu and performance monitoring features.
Symbol's Compact Flash wireless LAN adapter offers fast wireless connectivity and high performance with data rates up to 11 Mbps, with automatic rate scaling to 5.5, 2 and 1 Mbps, to maximize range connectivity, which goes up to 300 feet/91 meters in a standard office environment. The Wireless Networker also ships with advanced security mechanisms and supports 40 and 128 bit WEP encryption, with ongoing firmware development to support Kerberos Version 5.0 when used with Symbol's Spectrum24 High Rate wireless LAN infrastructure.
