WIDCOMM Announces New Bluetooth Development Kit for Windows CE

Support of Bluetooth Connectivity Products Extended to Pocket PC

WIDCOMM(R) Inc., a world leader in Bluetooth(TM) protocol software and networking solutions, announced today the availability of a new software development kit intended to speed the next generation of Pocket PC Bluetooth wireless applications to market.

The BTW-CE Development Kit provides Applications Programming Interfaces (APIs) and development tools to help software developers integrate Bluetooth communications into their Compaq iPAQ and HP Jornada applications. This new development kit is based on WIDCOMM's BTW-CE, Bluetooth Communications Software Solution for the Microsoft(R) Windows(R)-CE platform, announced in June 2001. The BTW-CE Development Kit provides the programming "hooks" to access that core Bluetooth functionality to seamlessly integrate it into developers' software applications.

Complementing the range of WIDCOMM Development Kits for Windows, Handspring(TM)-Palm OS(R) products, and network access solutions, the BTW-CE Development Kit is targeted at application developers and service providers who require a complete Bluetooth connectivity platform to quickly develop applications and services for vertical markets, such as server-based information services, industrial applications, automotive solutions and more.

"With this extension to our line of Development Kits, application developers now have a complete range of Bluetooth development tools and resources for the major PDA, PC and networking platforms," said Jeff Jaramillo, WIDCOMM's product marketing director for system solutions. "Developers can further leverage WIDCOMM's interoperability and Bluetooth software expertise with our new BTW-CE Development Kit. Bluetooth functionality will certainly add early differentiation to any software application, but will soon become a must-have feature with the full range of Bluetooth connectivity products soon hitting the market."

WIDCOMM's BTW-CE Development Kit includes two Bluetooth CompactFlash cards for both ends of the Bluetooth exchange, an extensive set of Bluetooth APIs, a selection of sample applications to use for demonstrations or as base code, and full program documentation. The BTW-CE Development Kit is priced at $1,495 with six months of technical support. Development kits can be ordered now from the WIDCOMM Web site at
