Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT) -- a leading technology solutions provider with a wide range of offerings in the embedded and wireless markets, today announced that last week their Bluetooth protocol stack, BlueWave(TM), along with all thirteen profiles, was awarded product qualification status (version 1.1) from the Bluetooth Qualification Body (BQB).
According to SIG's qualification listing, Wipro is only the second company in the world to have all thirteen Bluetooth profiles Version 1.1 qualified.
The Bluetooth Qualification Program (BQP) is important because successful qualification implies assured interoperability with different solutions and vendors as well as complete standard conformance.
With the profiles, Wipro completes qualification for its entire suite of Bluetooth offerings, adding to its previous qualification of its BlueWave baseband controller and software stack. Wipro's Bluetooth customers are thus assured of product quality and conformance today, helping them develop products which are easily scalable and interoperable, and resulting in significant savings in cost and time. Wipro's Bluetooth qualification testing was performed in conjunction with CeteCom Inc. (www.cetecom.com), a recognized BQB. Wipro is also committed to getting newer Profiles like Extended SDP (ESDP), Hands Free Car Profile, HID (Human Interface Devices), PAN (Personal Area Networking) qualified in the near future.

Wipro has a complete set of Bluetooth components consisting of a low gate count hardware baseband controller as well as a flexible software implementation of the baseband functionality for quick prototyping. Both baseband controllers have been successfully tested for interoperability with various third-party radio chipsets. Wipro also offers an easily portable software protocol stack that offers support for multiple Operating Systems and includes the first thirteen profiles as defined by the Bluetooth specification.
Bluetooth application profiles are specified by the Bluetooth Specification for particular services, applications and use scenarios. The risk of interoperability problems between two different vendors' products is diminished if both conform to the same 'Profile' specification.
The thirteen profiles available with Wipro's Bluewave software stack include the Generic Access Profile, Service Discovery Application Profile, Serial Port Profile, Dial Up Networking Profile, Fax Profile, Headset Profile, LAN Access Profile, Generic Object Exchange Profile, File Transfer Profile, Object Push Profile, Synchronization Profile, Cordless Telephony Profile, and Intercom Profile. The BlueWave protocol software stack is a modular and easily user configurable implementation of the Bluetooth baseband software, Link Manager Protocol, Host Controller Interface (HCI) and upper layers. Wipro's BlueWave Baseband Controller and BlueWave stack together form a complete Bluetooth solution that can be easily deployed in a broad range of embedded applications, be they custom Bluetooth system designs or IC implementations
