AirPrime Demonstrates CDMA2000 1X Embedded Wireless Modules for Microsoft Windows-Powered Pocket PC 2002 Software

Compact, lightweight wireless modules to become a key element in new 3G wireless handheld computing devices

AirPrime, Inc., a leading provider of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless access solutions for the OEM market, today demonstrated a live wireless data call - enabling mobile internet and email access - at the Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 Launch Event in San Francisco, CA.

The call was made using the recently announced AirPrime Helium 1X embedded wireless module connected to a PDA running the Microsoft Windows-Powered Pocket PC 2002 Software.

The new AirPrime Helium 1X wireless module family enables rapid integration of wireless data, voice and location services into mobile and fixed computing devices, including PDAs, notebook and desktop PCs, and Internet appliances. The AirPrime embedded wireless modules provide computing device manufacturers a solution for CDMA2000 wide-area wireless networking (WWAN) without compromising on the size or weight of their end product. The miniature wireless modules occupy a volume of less than 10 cubic centimeters and add only 20 grams of weight. Although small and lightweight, the AirPrime Helium 1X wireless modules are feature-rich. The modules are designed to support dual-band frequency operation to address global CDMA cellular/PCS networks (800 MHz and 1900 MHz) as well as location services (1575 MHz).

"AirPrime is pleased to demonstrate that CDMA2000 wireless access from a Pocket PC 2002-based PDA is a reality," said Todd Antes, AirPrime's Sr. Vice President of Marketing. "We are committed to enabling our OEM partners' delivery of fully-integrated wireless PDAs that leverage CDMA2000 1X wireless technology and the Pocket PC 2002 software platform."

"Pocket PC 2002 has a great advantage in the wireless marketplace because it is designed to be the most connected and expandable PDA available," said Derek Brown, product manager for the Mobility Division at Microsoft Corp. "We are pleased that AirPrime is taking advantage of the new feature functionalities of Pocket PC 2002 with its CDMA2000 embedded wireless modules that enable wide-area wireless connectivity and services to the PDA."
