Asynchrony Releases Most Powerful, Easiest-To-Use Line of Security Software Products For PDA's

PDA Defense Will Guard the Last "Unprotected" Computer Platform: Handhelds

Asynchrony (www.asynchrony.com), a collaborative software development and marketing company, today announced the release of PDA Defense(TM), an advanced line of security software products for handheld devices based on its PDABomb(TM) Security Platform. The release includes two versions: Standard and Professional versions for the Palm OS.

Not only do both versions offer the most technologically superior security, they offer the most user-transparent interface, making them extremely easy to use. In addition, the PDABomb platform on which the new line is based offers the proprietary capability to bit wipe data upon user- or enterprise-defined thresholds for potential security breaches.

By introducing this new line, Asynchrony intends to provide highly effective security tools for the only computer platform that has previously gone unguarded: handheld devices. In fact, the features that make PDAs so useful, such as their extreme portability and ready access to critical data, also create a serious security risk for both the individual and the enterprise. Since PDAs are very prone to loss and theft, PDA security is a serious concern for every handheld device user. In fact, Gartner Group estimates that more than 250,000 cell phones and PDAs will be lost at airports alone this year. The actual cost of hardware replacement is negligible compared to the potential liability for compromised sensitive data.

All PDA Defense products are built on the PDABomb Security Platform, a multi-tiered security system that uses industry-standard encryption (64-bit on the Standard version, 128- or 512-bit on the Professional version), while maximizing performance and response time by decrypting databases only when they are needed, instead of all at once (decryption-on-demand). The PDABomb Security Platform has already gained recognition as the technology behind security products marketed by companies such as McKessonHBOC and Handango.

PDA Defense Standard is designed for individual users who need to protect the four primary applications included with the Palm OS: the Address Book, Date Book, To Do List, and Memo Pad. Users can choose to have all records in the databases encrypted, have only private records in those databases encrypted, or turn off encryption completely. Utilizing industry standard 64-bit Blowfish encryption, the Standard version, with features such as encrypted password, decryption-on-demand, and the ability to disable data transfer mechanisms such as HotSync and IrDA, offers security superior to other entry-level products on the market. PDA Defense Standard was specifically developed for users with average security needs.

PDA Defense Professional is designed for users with sensitive information stored on programs from third party vendors. It is also intended for users with security needs requiring stronger encryption and the ability to bit wipe data if the unit is not hot-synced within a specified period of time. The professional version adds enhanced functionality including 128-bit or 512-bit Blowfish encryption that protects any information stored on a device, and allows the user to selectively choose which databases will be encrypted.

PDA Defense Standard is available for $19.95; Defense Professional is $29.95. Both versions are available by download from www.pdamessenger.com.
