Asynchrony Releases Most Powerful, Easiest-to-Use Line of Security Software Products for PDA's

PDA Defense Product Will Guard the Most "Unprotected" Computer Platform: Handhelds

Asynchrony (www.asynchrony.com) today announced the release of PDA Defense(TM), an advanced line of security software products for handheld devices based on its PDABomb(TM) Security Platform. The release includes two versions: PDA Defense Standard and PDA Defense Professional for the Palm OS.

Not only does the PDA Defense line offer the most comprehensive and technologically advanced PDA security solution, it provides the most user-transparent interface, making it extremely easy to use. Advanced features include "brute force attack" countermeasures that provide the proprietary capability to bit-wipe data upon user- or enterprise-defined thresholds for potential security breaches.

By introducing this new line, Asynchrony provides a new higher standard of data protection for what has been the least secured computer platform in most enterprises: handheld devices. The features that make PDAs so useful, such as their extreme portability and ready access to critical data, also make them very prone to loss and theft. In fact, Gartner Group estimates more than 250,000 cell phones and PDAs will be lost at airports alone this year. The lack of an effective and user-transparent PDA security solution has created a serious vulnerability for many organizations and PDA users. What's more, the actual cost of hardware replacement is negligible compared to the potential liability for compromised sensitive data.

All PDA Defense products are built on the PDABomb Security Platform, a multi-tiered security system that uses industry-standard encryption (64-bit on the Standard version, 128- or 512-bit on the Professional version), while maximizing performance and response time by decrypting databases only when needed (decryption-on-demand), instead of all at once. The PDABomb Security Platform has already gained recognition as the technology behind security products from leading companies such as Handango.

"We believe that any security implementation for handhelds should not detract from their ease of use," said David Elfanbaum, vice president of marketing and business development for Asynchrony. "That's why we took great pains to create software that actually enhances the user experience through features such as auto-lock, grace periods and hardware button password entry options."

PDA Defense Standard is designed for individual users who need to protect the four primary applications included with the Palm OS: the Address Book, Date Book, To Do List, and Memo Pad. Users can choose to have all records in the databases encrypted, have only private records in those databases encrypted, or turn off encryption completely. The Standard version utilizes industry standard 64-bit Blowfish encryption, and features encrypted password, decryption-on-demand, and the ability to disable data transfer mechanisms such as HotSync and IrDA. It also offers security superior to other entry-level products on the market. PDA Defense Standard was specifically developed for users with average security needs.

PDA Defense Professional is designed for users with sensitive information stored on programs from third party vendors. It is also intended for users with security needs requiring stronger encryption and the ability to bit wipe data if the unit is not hot-synced within a specified period of time. The professional version adds enhanced functionality including 128-bit or 512-bit Blowfish encryption that protects any information stored on a device, and allows the user to selectively choose which databases will be encrypted.

PDA Defense Standard is available for $19.95; PDA Defense Professional is $29.95. Both versions are available by download from www.pdadefense.com
