Interactive Imaging Systems, Inc. Showcasing The iCOM Handheld Wireless Device At CEATEC Japan 2001

Interactive Imaging Systems, Inc. (IIS) today announced it will be demonstrating the new iCOM Wireless Handheld at the CEATEC Japan 2001 trade show at the Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center).

This will be the first public showing of the iCOM in Asia. The iCOM is a Microsoft Windows CE hand-held wireless device that utilizes a full-screen, full-color VGA display in a package no larger than a cell phone. Utilizing a proprietary virtual display system, the iCOM allows users to view any Internet data, including HTML, graphics, and JAVA with image quality equivalent to a desktop PC.

The iCOM connects users to the Internet through the popular Japanese PHS system, wireless modems, wireless LANs, Bluetooth, and cellular phones; providing seamless access to time sensitive information including email, messaging, the Internet, and intranet based applications. With the iCOM, users experience the Internet with the equivalent to a 21" monitor, unlike WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) based solutions found on low resolution Cellular phones and PDAs.

IIS has worked as a preferred partner with Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) to incorporate their advanced micro-display technology into the iCOM. The iCOM utilizes Kopin's CyberDisplay(TM) 640C full-color VGA display and will be running the Japanese language version of the popular Windows CE platform. The handheld iCOM will be offered at pricing competitive to advanced PDAs or Cellular phones and is expected to be available in Japan by the first quarter of next year.
