Keynote Launches Wireless Performance Measurement Service; Measurements Taken From Actual Mobile Devices

New Service Benchmarks Performance and Reliability to Ensure the Quality of Wireless Data Services

Keynote Systems (Nasdaq:KEYN), the Internet Performance Authority(R), today announced its newest hosted application performance benchmarking service, Keynote Wireless Perspective(TM), designed to measure, monitor and diagnose problems with wireless data services including wireless messaging, wireless Internet, and next-generation wireless services. The new service enables large enterprises, wireless carriers and content providers in the United States and Europe to ensure quality of service, improve the performance and decrease the cost of managing complex wireless data applications.

Keynote Wireless Perspective, which is built from the ground up to measure wireless data services from the end-user perspective, provides real-time geographically distributed monitoring across all major wireless networks in the U.S. and Europe and uses actual mobile devices including wireless handhelds, interactive pagers and mobile phones to make its performance measurements. The distributed measurement network is currently under expansion with measurements expected to be taken from 10 major metropolitan areas by the end of this year.

"Our new Wireless Perspective significantly expands Keynote's offerings in the benchmarking arena," said Umang Gupta, chairman and CEO of Keynote. "The service gives large enterprises, wireless carriers and content providers an extremely useful service for ensuring that their customers around the world can optimally send and receive text-based messages and Web content over the wireless network."

Keynote acquired the technology to add wireless services to its family of Perspective(TM) Web application performance measurement and management services with the acquisition of Redmond, Washington-based OnDevice, which is now the new wireless division of Keynote. The addition of Wireless Perspective to Keynote's other performance management and testing services continues to assure that Keynote customers have available the performance measurement services they need as new technologies emerge and gain acceptance in the marketplace.

According to a report by the international strategy, consulting and research firm Atlantic-ACM, the wireless data market in the United States is projected to reach nearly $13 billion by 2006 from just $164 million in 2000, and emerging technologies such as Short Message Service (SMS) and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enable a new breed of applications, commerce and content.

"As the number of mobile devices continues to increase, enterprises are extending corporate applications and content services to target wireless users," said Bill Gassman, senior analyst at Gartner. "Wireless applications are more complex, and dependent on more external services such as carriers and content formatting systems. Monitoring the performance and availability of wireless applications from the users' point of view, along with comparative benchmarking, helps pinpoint and prevent problems and improve the service, which in turn, helps remove the roadblocks to the end-user adoption rate."

Using Wireless Perspective, enterprise customers can improve ROI on wireless data investments, decrease lost transactions, increase customer satisfaction and reduce support costs. They can test and evaluate wireless network options to determine which is best suited for their applications; and determine the source of problems, whether in the wireless carrier network, the Internet infrastructure, or the application service provider (ASP).
