Partnership with HandEra Enables First Palm OS Dictation Solution

MDeverywhere, a leader in providing handheld solutions for physicians to improve efficiency and accuracy at the point of care, today announced an alliance with HandEra, maker of handheld computing devices, to empower physicians with digital dictation capabilities and charge capture on a Palm operating system (OS) device.

The partnership will further streamline the business of medicine and enable MDeverywhere to provide physicians with additional functionality on the intuitive and popular Palm OS platform.

Previously, physicians were relegated to tape-based dictation, which does not meet impending Healthcare Information Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) legislation. The HandEra is the first Palm OS device to have voice recording capabilities, supporting 120 minutes of dictated notes stored as .wav files on multiple card slots. The card slots help leave the memory on the device free to complete other functions like charge capture, order entry and scheduling. In addition, the HandEra offers easy, one-handed dictation operation.

The dictated note is identified with an automatic patient header generated from MDeverywhere's EveryCharge(SM) charge-capture service. The header eliminates the need for duplicate data entry and provides additional safety by providing patient identifiers with supporting notes.

"The HandEra is the next generation Palm OS device," says Alan Rubin, president and CEO, MDeverywhere. "As handheld devices improve, we are excited to be able to provide physicians with additional functionality, protect patient privacy and reduce duplicate data entry."

Allen Penkake, vice president, sales, HandEra says, "We are excited to see leading healthcare solutions, such as MDeverywhere's EveryCharge and EveryNote(SM) leverage our technology for efficient and effective delivery of clinical and administrative services."
