Novatel Wireless Successfully Completes Compatibility Testing of 1xRTT CDMA PC Cards

Novatel Wireless Merlin C201(TM) is First 1xRTT PC Card Certified by LG Electronics Inc. for Monet Mobile Networks

Novatel Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq:NVTL), a provider of wireless data access solutions, today announced it has successfully completed data and voice compatibility testing for its Merlin C201(TM) Wireless PC Card Modem on LG Electronics' cdma2000 network. LG Electronics is the 1xRTT equipment infrastructure provider for Monet Mobile Networks, a provider of fast, mobile access to the complete Internet in select markets in the Midwest.

"Novatel Wireless' 1xRTT PC Card is the first to be certified on our 1xRTT infrastructure equipment for the US market," said Kyeong Woo Lee, vice president of System Business of LG Infocomm USA Inc. "We are happy to have worked with them through the infrastructure testing process as they build on their market leadership with next generation CDMA wireless data products."

The 1xRTT CDMA standard, also known as CDMA2000, forms the basis for third generation, or 3G, wireless standards. 1xRTT is designed to support always-on data transmission speeds up to 10 times faster than typically available today, up to a maximum of 153.6 kbps.

"This is an important milestone demonstrating our leadership in cdma2000 technology, and in making next generation wireless Internet solutions available to our customers," said Peter Leparulo, senior vice president of CDMA operations for Novatel Wireless. "The momentum of our CDMA development continues to build as we cross this milestone toward commercial shipments of our 1xRTT CDMA wireless Internet products."

"Novatel Wireless' Merlin C201 modem is a key enabler of our mobile Internet service," said George Tronsrue, chairman and CEO of Monet Mobile Networks. "We are encouraged by the initial tests of our CDMA 1x network, and will therefore implement Novatel Wireless' modems in our wireless data service launch later this month in the Midwest."

Monet is deploying a data-centric network that utilizes CDMA2000 technology, a third-generation (3G) wireless standard. Monet's service will initially rely upon a 1xRTT platform that supports data transmission speeds up to 153.6 kbps. The network will be upgraded to 1xEV-DO, which will support access speeds up to 2.4 mbps, significantly enhancing data throughput rates for wireless Internet users.
