PeopleSoft and Research In Motion Team to Deliver Wireless Solution for European Market

Solution Will Enable Mobile Updates to PeopleSoft Pure Internet Applications

PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq:PSFT) today announced a mobile solution for Europe to enable users to update PeopleSoft's pure internet applications using the BlackBerry(TM) wireless e-mail solution developed by Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq:RIMM). PeopleSoft is the first enterprise applications vendor to announce its European customers will be able to execute secure enterprise transactions using the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld. All wireless transactions will be executed across a GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) network.

"The combination of these two industry-leading technologies will change the way organizations do business," said Ram Gupta, executive vice president, PeopleSoft Products and Technology. "Mobile users can receive, review and execute enterprise transactions whether on the road, in the office, or at home -- dramatically accelerating the speed of business."

Mobile transactions are critical for business executives, mobile field service agents, and sales professionals. By selecting actions from a simple menu, users can execute transactions anytime, anywhere using the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld. With RIM support in PeopleTools, PeopleSoft applications could be modified to allow executives to approve sales deals, support representatives to receive help tickets and schedule appointments, and line managers to approve expense reports and purchase requisitions. PeopleSoft applications are automatically updated upon the completion of each transaction.

"PeopleSoft and RIM are delivering a breakthrough mobile solution in Europe for remotely accessing corporate data and updating enterprise applications," said Charles Meyer, director and vice president, Europe at Research In Motion. "This innovative solution allows customers to significantly increase productivity through always on, secure and easy access to business information while on the go."

Extending PeopleSoft pure internet applications to BlackBerry users further demonstrates PeopleSoft's commitment to delivering industry leading solutions to the mobile professional. This solution complements the PeopleSoft Mobile Agent, the industry's first pure internet solution for disconnected access.

The PeopleSoft and RIM solution is currently scheduled for availability in Europe for early access customers later this year. The solution is expected to be generally available in Q1 2002.
