Psion Teklogix' New netpad -R- An Industry-First For Rugged, Hand-Held Tablets

New Class Of Mobile Computer Bridges Gap Between Consumer And Industrial Devices

Psion Teklogix (LSE:PON.), a leader in developing mobile devices for wireless local area networks today announced the launch of netpad(R) -- a rugged hand-held tablet that introduces a new class of mobile computer to the growing mobile computing market.

Combining the largest screen -- 1/2 VGA -- and most rugged design available in a handheld, netpad bridges the gap between lightweight consumer devices and heavy-duty industrial computers.

Netpad's unique large touch screen allows mobile workers to view detailed graphics and data clearly. Dynamic switching between portrait and landscape mode, allows easy access and manipulation of complex documents, schematics and spreadsheet no internal drives or moving parts, and the ability to withstand a 1.5 meter drop to concrete, netpad is engineered to perform in the most demanding environments. The rugged hand-held tablet provides more than eight hours of continuous use on a single battery charge, and features instant-on capabilities, making it ideally suited to indoor and outdoor use.

"Netpad is Psion Teklogix' response to the gap that -- until now -- has existed in the mobile computing market for a rugged hand-held tablet that can run information-intensive applications," said Mike Marsh, director of mobile computing at Psion Teklogix. "Its a powerful multi-tasking platform with full Java support provides mobile workers with fast, one-handed mobile data collection and processing power at the point of activity."

Netpad is the ideal rugged hand-held tablet for mobile sales, service and maintenance, field data collection, and track and trace markets. It allows mobile workers to provide quick, accurate, on-the-spot responses to customers, and improves operating efficiencies by reducing data handling costs and non-billable time spent between assignments.

"The worldwide market for rugged mobile devices and applications is rapidly expanding," said David Krebs, AIDC group manager, Venture Development Corporation. "Psion Teklogix' launch of the netpad addresses the needs of this growing market and provides the enterprise with a new alternative that will increase the efficiency and productivity of the mobile worker."

The introduction of netpad strengthens Psion Teklogix' commitment to developing innovative devices for mobile workers. With the mobile data collection market estimated to be worth $1.1 billion this year (IDC), companies are increasingly looking for mobile devices that can improve productivity and reduce operating costs across the enterprise. Netpad is available today from Psion Teklogix sales offices, distributors and value-added resellers.
