Synchrologic's iMobile Suite Upgrade Eases IT Management of Mobile Devices

Wireless Optimization -- One of Many Features Improving Corporate IT Efficiencies

In a move that dramatically eases use and management of laptop and handheld computers within the enterprise, Synchrologic today announced significant upgrades in its flagship product - iMobile Suite, technology for mobilizing enterprise applications, managing mobile devices and distributing corporate data.

Overall the enhancements are designed to help minimize the total cost of ownership of mobile computing and related devices two ways: 1.) Increasing the value of corporate information by delivering mission-critical data to mobile workers, and 2.) Decreasing both management and communication costs associated with connecting users to the information and software they need to do their jobs.

"Corporations are investing in ways to increase revenues by getting closer to their customers. Remote access to information for employees and customers is a key component to realizing this vision," said Bill Jones, Synchrologic's vice president of products. "iMobile Suite provides a comprehensive solution that tackles the two major challenges when implementing a pervasive mobile solution -- mobilizing the information in a secure fashion and providing the systems management to maintain administrative control over the data as well as devices."

iMobile Suite has been upgraded to offer server synchronization of Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino email and personal information manager (PIM) data to both Pocket PC and Palm OS devices. Other new iMobile Suite features include: wireless optimizations to minimize server traffic and decrease communications expense, and stronger systems management to provide maximum management control of handheld devices and laptops.

Mobile and Wireless Email and PIM Sync

iMobile Suite now supports Lotus Domino servers for Pocket PC handheld devices.

Select new features include:

-- Increased security with Certicom elliptic curve encryption for wireless or wire line connections.

-- Bi-directional 'read' and 'unread' mark synchronization.

-- Efficient management and handling of meeting requests and recurring calendar entries on handhelds.

-- Automatic mailbox discovery simplifies users management over multiple groupware servers.

-- Global Address List (GAL) synchronization from server to handheld.

"We selected as a strategic solutions partner to integrate with our MobilePro(TM) handheld PC product line," said Larry Miller, vice president of marketing for NEC Computers Inc. "Our customers require an all-inclusive solution to provide out-of-the-box back-up and recovery as well as PIM and e-mail synchronization solutions. We believe our enterprise customers will benefit from a high rate of return and lower their total cost of ownership by utilizing our combined solutions."

Increased Systems Management Support

Synchrologic takes IT support to a higher level providing IT administrators with unprecedented management control of handhelds and laptops.

Select new features include:

-- Deepest hardware and software asset inventory gathering using the specific APIs for each handheld device and Windows Management Interface (WMI) for laptops.

-- Imbedded "Actions" provide easier mechanism to quickly and easily distribute software and maintain devices resulting in less code to write.

-- Sophisticated user management through synchronization with LDAP, Active Directory, or NT domain directories facilitating faster implementations.

"Enterprises are struggling to align the management tools and processes of well-connected desktop users with those of mobile users," says Ronni Colville, research director at Gartner, Inc. "Solutions that come from legacy mobile vendors that leverage existing technology and knowledge regarding the "loosely connected" and self-initiated users are best suited to address this challenge."

Wireless Optimization

True mobility centers on wireless. iMobile Suite is now optimized for both wireless and wire line access to corporate information facilitating lower communications costs by providing users the most efficient means to connect to back-end servers.

Select new features include:

-- Checkpoint restart for efficient communications over unreliable connections.

-- Compression to minimize data transferred.

-- Improved communications protocols for more efficient wireless network connections.

-- Improved user interface for wireless usage.

-- Full support of CDMA, CDPD, GSM, GPRS, and 802.11b networks.

iMobile Suite continues to support One Button Sync, enabling users to access all files and information through a single session, and a single administration console that provides IT one point of administration across all components within the suite.

The iMobile Suite 4.0 enhancements are designed to fulfill corporate requirements for a comprehensive mobile and wireless infrastructure giving them the tools to manage occasionally connected mobile devices, extend enterprise applications and distribute software and data to their mobile workforce.
