Agilent Technologies Reduces Cost of Network Test with First Handheld Tester for Measuring Network Services

Agilent FrameScope 350 Becomes First Handheld Tester to Verify the Performance of Web, File, e-Mail, Print and DNS Servers; First to Combine Full Category 6 Cable Certification with Active Network Testing

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced the Agilent FrameScope 350, the first handheld analyzer that enables IT support staff, network installers and service providers to verify the performance of key network services such as Web, file, e-mail, print and DNS servers. The FrameScope 350 is also the industry's first analyzer to combine full Category 6 cable certification with active network testing, reducing the cost of test by offering installers and maintenance technicians two tools in one.

"Companies need to test business-critical network services to ensure that users can do their jobs effectively," said Steve Bates, general manager in Agilent's Service Test Division. "The powerful automation features of the FrameScope 350 enable even inexperienced technicians to solve network problems, measure network performance and certify cabling, all with a single, easy-to-use tool."

FrameScope 350's easy-to-use color touch screen allows users in switched Fast Ethernet and TCP/IP environments to quickly isolate and resolve protocol, configuration, performance and cabling problems. The product's innovative AutoTest performance test suite uses objective performance metrics to measure the response times of key network services such as Web, file, e-mail, print and DNS servers. This eliminates the expense and complexity of baselining, and allows network staff to locate under-performing services quickly and efficiently.

The FrameScope 350 also troubleshoots problems such as utilization, broadcasts, or collisions. It performs Category 6 and Fiber Optic Cable testing, including full certification to U.S. and international cabling and networking standards. A network discovery capability lets users survey the network and generate a complete list of workstations, switches, routers, servers and other network devices.

The FrameScope 350 can be easily installed and operated throughout the network by first-level technicians. It can be remotely controlled through a Web browser, enabling network managers to assist local staff by monitoring and identifying problems from the central office. Users can save additional test results with expandable storage on removable compact flash memory cards, and print professional-quality graphical test reports via a Web interface.

U.S. Pricing and Availability

The Agilent FrameScope 350 standalone unit is priced at $5,995. The Agilent FrameScope 350 with DualRemote is priced at $7,995. Both configurations are expected to be available on Dec. 6, 2001. Further information is available at http://wirescope.comms.agilent.com.
