Newest Version of Industry's Most Fully Featured Program Helps Companies Protect PDAs and the Sensitive Information They Contain

Asynchrony (www.asynchrony.com) today announced the release of PDA Defense Enterprise for the Palm OS. The new release allows administrators to implement mandatory PDA security measures by configuring completely customized versions of the software for distribution throughout the enterprise.

PDA Defense Enterprise version includes all of the industry-leading features of the Professional version, including up to 512-bit Blowfish encryption, proprietary brute-force attack countermeasures and auto-lock functionality. Additionally, PDA Defense Enterprise allows administrators to turn optional features in the Professional version into mandatory measures and prevents employees from removing the software or modifying the settings without an administrative password.

PDA Defense Enterprise was designed to fill the glaring hole that most organizations have in their PDA data security.

"Although many companies don't officially support PDAs or prohibit them from storing company information, the reality is that people in those organizations do use PDAs containing sensitive company information ranging from client lists to network passwords," said David Elfanbaum, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Asynchrony. "PDA Defense Enterprise was designed so that organizations could easily implement meaningful security across the enterprise."

The newest version of PDA Defense continues Asynchrony's aim of bringing better security to handheld devices, considered the least secured computer platform in most enterprises. The features that make PDAs so useful, such as their portability and ready access to critical data, also make them highly susceptible to loss and theft. In fact, Gartner Group estimates more than 250,000 cell phones and PDAs will be lost at airports alone this year. What's more, the actual cost of hardware replacement is negligible compared to the potential liability for compromised sensitive data.

PDA Defense Enterprise was designed with the needs of the most security-conscious organizations in mind. Through a multi-tiered system of security measures, the software creates powerful roadblocks to potential data thieves with strong encryption, fail-safe bit-wiping upon attempted security breach and the ability to disable data transfer mechanisms such as HotSync and IrDA.

"PDAs and other pervasive computing devices will inevitably be either lost or stolen," said Jeb Bolding, a senior analyst with Enterprise Management Associates. "Given enough time, someone with nefarious intentions will be able to crack virtually any authentication or encryption system placed on the device. Asynchrony goes a step further than simply providing basic security for portable devices, they ensure that those bent on cracking into enterprise data will not have the information long enough to do any damage."

PDA Defense is almost completely transparent to the user. Through the use of decryption-on-demand and a host of usability features such as auto-lock with an optional grace period, PDA users can continue to benefit from the speed and convenience of their devices while the enterprise is assured of maximal data security.

PDA Defense Enterprise is available with a minimum 50-user license. More information on the product can be found at www.pdadefense.com. Ordering information is available by contacting sales@pdadefense.com or calling 314-678-2200.
