Proven track record as industry leader encourages Baltimore Police to select Padcom's(R) TotalRoam(TM) for their patrol fleet

Padcom, Inc., a leading provider of wireless data communication technology to public safety agencies announced today that the City of Baltimore Police Department is using its data communication devices to create a mobile office in their patrol vehicles.

Using Padcom's patented products, TR6100 with integrated communication transceivers and TotalRoam Ellipse routing software, Baltimore police officials are able to implement a ruggedized device that serves as a single source for all of their data communication.

Padcom was identified by the department as the only company able to provide the intelligent network management of multiple communication modems within a single device.

"Padcom's TotalRoam solution will allow officers in Baltimore City to switch from CDPD to Spread Spectrum transparently without a disruption to their workflow," said Lt. Craig Meier, Director of MIS/Communications Technology Section, I.T. Division for the Baltimore City Police Department. "The wireless network connectivity, provided by the modem, will allow patrol officers to perform many tasks, including the transmission of field reports, without the need to return to the station. This will allow our officers to spend more time on the street to help further reduce incidents of criminal activity."

Connected to Panasonic Toughbook laptops within the vehicles, the TotalRoam 6100 hardware device houses a Sierra Wireless CDPD modem, a Cisco 802.11b wireless LAN card and a Trimble GPS receiver to provide vehicle tracking.

The TotalRoam Ellipse software seamlessly manages all of the communications, allowing Aether's mobile data application to communicate over either network, providing complete uninterrupted data communications. Because the system is transparent, officers are able to log in once and get all the information necessary.
