Embedded Bluetooth Hardware/Software Option for Developers of Applications Such as Mobile Phones, Games and Access Points

CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) today announced the availability of a combined Bluetooth single-chip hardware and software solution that allows designers to embed Bluetooth into a range of devices not running on Windows based operating systems, such as mobile phones, PDAs, games and access points.

This new product bundle means that CSR can now offer its customers a fully engineered hardware and software solution for embedded applications that is pre-qualified to version 1.1 of the Bluetooth standard.

The combined product package is the first to support all of the 13 most widely used Bluetooth profiles that have been developed to decrease the risk of interoperatibility problems between different manufacturers' products. The profiles are defined by end-user applications including the Headset (HS) profile, Fax (FP) profile and LAN access (LAP) profile.

"This is a complete solution including everything from the antenna through CSR's single-chip silicon to sample end-user applications for 13 Bluetooth profiles," said Eric Janson, vice president North America, CSR. "The developer can rapidly enable embedded devices with Bluetooth capability, incurring minumum design risk, ensuring fastest time to market."

Customers can order the complete bundle directly from CSR with a single CSR part number and get BlueCore silicon, lower layer firmware, host side software and a complete set of sample applications in a single, easy to use package. The new product bundle consists of WIDCOMM's BTE Bluetooth communications embedded software stack, CSR's BlueCore(TM) single-chip, hardware reference designs and complete sample applications.

"The new combined bundle is interoperable, pre-tested and ready to deploy. Customers can benefit from the most robust and reliable Bluetooth solution available," said Andreas Malzach, WIDCOMM's vice president of software business. "Our continued cooperation initially announced in August 2001 has resulted in multiple BQB-approved Bluetooth products. Bundled products such as these will help speed up Bluetooth market deployment on a broader scale."
