Ericsson and Verizon Wireless Demonstrate Integrated Multi-Access Solution for CDMA2000, 802.11b WLAN and Bluetooth

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERICY) and Verizon Wireless today demonstrated seamless, high-speed packet data services with an industry-first multi-access demonstration via Ericsson's CDMA2000, 802.11b Wireless LAN (WLAN) and Bluetooth solutions at the CDMA Americas Congress. Utilizing Verizon Wireless spectrum, this multi-access solution for CDMA2000 1xEV illustrates how CDMA operators can efficiently and cost effectively deliver 3G mobile Internet services to their customers.

Ericsson's CDMA2000 1xEV demonstration shows how an operator, like Verizon Wireless, can implement a complementary access solution with 802.11b WLAN and Bluetooth. The multi-access solution enables the end-user to have an "always best connected" experience when working in local and private environments such as airports, conference centers and offices. Ericsson's CDMA2000 solution is optimised for mobility and coverage in the wide area network while 802.11b WLAN is optimised for speed in local area coverage and will support services in "hot spots," such as airports. Bluetooth is then used as a cost-effective access technology for a personal/home area network. The end-user will experience the maximum benefits of all three technologies, ensuring cost-effective, seamless mobility with secure connections and the highest data rates possible.

"We are very pleased to be working with Verizon Wireless on this multi-access demonstration," said Larry Brittain, vice president, Sales of Ericsson Mobile Systems CDMA. "This solution is yet another example of Ericsson's technology leadership and commitment to helping operators such as Verizon Wireless supply the most advanced mobile Internet services to their customers."

"We're excited by the potential opportunity that this multi-access solution creates for Verizon Wireless and wireless customers," said Bill Stone, executive director-advanced technology strategy for Verizon Wireless.
