FunMail Animates On Color KTF Handset in Korea

Samsung Color Phone Capable of Multi-frame Animation for Rich User Experience

November 2, 2001

FunMail announced today successful color tests of a Korean Language version of the FunMail Wireless Animated Messaging system on a Samsung color phone. Using the KTF ME platform and KTF's BREW platform, FunMail's patent-pending system analyzed a short text message and generated a relevant 256-color animation. A picture of FunMail on the color handset is available at http://www.funmail.com/corp/news/ktf.html.

"FunMail working on a Korean phone on a Korean wireless network is an important proof of concept," said FunMail CEO Adam Lavine. "The advanced nature of Korean handsets from vendors like Samsung and LG will enable us to bring a compelling, color animated messaging to millions of Korean wireless users."

The system works in both Korean and English. The message "Have a good time in Hawaii" was entered, which was analyzed by FunMail's Relevancy Engine. A compelling, relevant animation was then generated by FunMail's Rendering Engine, which was sent to the Korean phone. The entire process took only a few seconds.

The FunMail platform is designed to integrate premium content, or can be "white labeled" for specific brand or content owners. Earlier, FunMail announced an agreement to integrate Mashimaro, Korea's most popular animated character (http://www.mashimaro.co.kr). FunMail is working with local content, marketing, technology and distribution partners to ensure FunMail will have maximum impact for Korean users.

FunMail is designed to interoperate across multiple protocols on multiple networks, including SMS, WAP, cHTML, and i-mode. Earlier, FunMail announced their support for the BREW platform from Qualcomm (Nasdaq:QCOM), a dynamic multimedia-oriented wireless environment for CDMA handsets. Launch of BREW on carrier platforms such as KTF in Korea is expected soon, and some industry estimates predict 2 million color BREW handsets will be available in Korea by the end of 2001.
