Microcell Offers GPRS Roaming in the U.S. With VoiceStream Wireless: Fast Wireless Internet Access South of the Border Now Available With Fido

November 16, 2001

Microcell Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq:MICT) (TSE:MTI.B.), a leading Canadian provider of Personal Communications Services (PCS) operating under the Fido(R) brand name, today announced that it has launched Fido GPRS Internet access service with its United States roaming partner VoiceStream Wireless.

This access creates a high-speed mobile data network throughout North America for Fido and VoiceStream customers.

"Microcell is removing the roadblocks that prevent professionals and businesspeople from getting real work done when travelling in the U.S," said Fulvio A. Bussandri, President and COO of Microcell Solutions. "People need reliable, secure, instant access to their personal information and the Internet, and that's exactly what we're delivering."

As of today, Fido's GPRS customers can use their "always on" wireless data services in over 3,500 U.S. cities and towns including Washington DC, New York, Seattle, Chicago and other major centres across VoiceStream's GSM/GPRS network. Future agreements with additional GSM roaming partners in the U.S. and abroad will provide Fido customers with further worldwide access to GPRS services in the coming months.

Recently, Fido launched Canada's first suite of wireless data services using the new P280 and V66 GPRS handsets from Motorola and Microcell's GPRS network. Wireless customers can now send and receive data at speeds of up to 56 kbps in a fully mobile environment using their GPRS handset or by connecting it to their laptops. An over-the-air system for transmitting data on GSM networks, GPRS technology converts wireless data into standard Internet packets, enabling interoperability between the Internet and GSM networks.

Fido customers will receive the benefit of free data roaming in available U.S. markets until Spring 2002; network access in the U.S. will be covered under their existing GPRS monthly plan.

For $100 a month, Fido's GPRS launch offer includes unlimited access to Fido's GPRS and WAP services until January 31, 2002, one thousand weekday voice minutes, unlimited evening and weekend calls, Call Display and Fido's exclusive Performance Voice Messaging(R). This offer is available until December 31, 2001.

Fido also offers a variety of data-only price plans tailored to the needs of the customer's computing device-from PDAs to laptop computers.

Both Microcell and VoiceStream operate on the GSM wireless communications standard, the dominant worldwide digital technology offered by more than 400 operators around the world.
