NEC Computers Inc. Unveils New Enterprise-Class PDA

NEC MobilePro P300 Delivers New Powerful Configuration, Innovative Expansion Capabilities and Customized Enterprise Software November 2001 (Newstream) -- NEC Computers Inc., a leading provider of mobile, desktop and server computing solutions for the enterprise market, today introduced the NEC MobilePro(TM) P300 Pocket PC, a highly versatile new personal digital assistant (PDA) designed specifically for the corporate market.

Engineered with integrated CompactFlash(TM) Type II (CF) and Secure Digital (SD) expansion slots, the MobilePro P300 offers added flexibility and functionality. The built-in SD slot provides users with the versatility to use SD memory cards for plug-and-play and data storage. The CF slot allows users to simultaneously work with a wide range of Pocket PC accessories with options ranging from a Wireless LAN card to Global Positioning System (GPS), voice-over IP (VoIP) module or microdrive storage devices.

Operating on Microsoft® Corp.'s new Windows®-Powered Pocket PC 2002 software, the NEC MobilePro P300 is designed to be a full-featured Pocket PC. The MobilePro P300 targets the corporate user, offering greater expansion capabilities, a photo-realistic color display and a comprehensive set of enterprise applications. NEC Computers is also distinguishing the new MobilePro P300 in the corporate market by offering one year of UltraCare® Service concurrent with the limited warranty.1 This service includes Rapid Exchange that allows customers to receive a replacement system the next business day2, or Exchange Upon Receipt for customers who send their unit in for service in advance of shipment.

MobilePro P300 Features and Benefits

The lightweight MobilePro P300, weighing less than seven ounces and with a profile of .74-inches, integrates a powerful 206MHz Intel® StrongARM 32-bit RISC processor. The MobilePro P300 features 64MB of flexible memory - which includes 32MB RAM and a 32MB SD memory card with every system. The MobilePro P300 also includes a 32MB flash ROM with an embedded synchronization client on board3, providing plenty of power for communications, Web browsing, graphic-based applications and presentation capabilities. The SD card ships standard with a suite of business and entertainment applications. Users can also customize the SD card to ship pre-installed with enterprise-specific applications and software to meet the unique needs of each customer, helping organizations expedite deployment.

In addition to the MobilePro P300's expansion capabilities, the new NEC Pocket PC features a vibrant 3.8-inch TFT reflective front-lit display with support for more than 65,000 colors. The large, photo-realistic display is suited for viewing rich Internet content, crisp screen text and vivid streaming video in both outdoor and indoor environments. Users working with the MobilePro P300 for extended periods of time will appreciate the viewing the large screen provides. Software Solutions for MobilePro P300

The MobilePro P300 ships with a host of third-party enterprise software solutions pre-installed, including MobilePro Synchronization System(TM)3 for data management and recovery and Insignia's Jeode(TM) Java plug-in for securely loading and running e-commerce applications using Embedded Java. The 32MB SD card ships standard with Westtek's ClearVue(TM) for displaying Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint(TM) presentations with animations and transitions. Also included are ArcSoft's PhotoBase(TM) for viewing and managing digital images, and Voice Messenger Force(TM) by Ruksun Software for voice-enabled instant messaging.
