Harmony 802.11a to Support XP Driver and Enhanced Wireless Security

November 13, 2001

Proxim, Inc. (Nasdaq:PROX), the leader in wireless broadband networking, today announced it is supporting Microsoft's Windows XP(TM) for 802.11a wireless networks with its Harmony 802.11a CardBus Card. Windows XP users can now take advantage of Harmony 802.11a's 100 Mbps wireless networking with native 802.1x support for enhanced wireless security.

"Proxim is pleased to offer Windows XP users the capabilities of 100 Mbps wireless networking," said Ken Haase, director of product marketing for Proxim. "Harmony 802.11a customers will benefit from the addition of Windows XP's native 802.1x support, which provides a higher level of security and interoperability across manufacturers."

Since Harmony is a multi-standard platform, enterprise customers using Windows XP can deploy 802.11a and 802.11b wireless networks with the highest level of security. Windows XP and 802.1x also ensure enterprises interoperability with other vendors' 802.11a devices.

In addition to 802.1x-compliance for Windows XP users, Harmony also delivers equivalent security for Windows 98SE, 2000 and ME, helping enterprises maintain their investment in legacy operating systems and client devices. Like 802.1x for Windows XP, Harmony utilizes user-based authentication and automatic key distribution for these existing operating systems, enabling IT managers to employ this higher level of security across existing operating systems and devices.

The Harmony 802.11a CardBus Card began shipping in early October. Windows XP support will be available in the CardBus Card by the end of November.
