The first client-free infrastructure solution for mobile network operators to optimize the performance of TCP-based applications over GPRS and packet-switched networks, is being launched by Speedwise Technologies Ltd - the market leader in client-free Internet acceleration solutions.
Speedwise OpTCP is a software solution which runs on TCP-based application servers installed on the operator's LAN. It maintains session stability, ensures optimal utilization of the available GPRS bandwidth, increases throughput and improves performance of TCP-based applications, especially at times when the network is loaded. The overall result is better, smoother and more consistent performance of applications such as web-browsing, e-mail, and FTP downloads, and network operators obtain an increased return on investment in GPRS infrastructure through better network utilisation. The solution is complementary to Speedwise Accellence(TM), the leading client-free Internet accelerator for wireless networks.
OpTCP's development is the result of an innovative research process carried out by Speedwise, which drew on its close relationships with leading wireless operators to learn from their experiences in testing and deploying GPRS networks.
Unlike other so-called TCP optimization solutions, OpTCP is client-free, does not replace TCP with another protocol, and does not attempt to introduce non-standard improvements to TCP. As a result, the TCP stack remains unchanged, and all communications to and from the OpTCP server are fully TCP standard compliant. This ensures that the software can be smoothly integrated with existing equipment at the operator's site. Since no changes are required to the subscribers' devices or to the way in which subscribers use data applications, GPRS network users transparently receive improved services, without having to download any additional software on their devices.
