TDK Systems' Go Blue Products Make Wireless Computing Routine

Four Proven Bluetooth Devices for Palm and PCs Showcase at COMDEX

November 12, 2001

TDK Systems (NYSE:TDK), and its major technology partners, are making the previously distant vision of low-cost wireless computing a routine office event with its Go Blue(TM) product range. In concert with its long-standing wireless strategy, four Bluetooth plug-in and clip-on devices are being marketed by TDK Systems and shown at COMDEX.

For the Palm(TM) m500 series and the Palm V(TM) series of handheld computers, TDK Systems has delivered two cable-free solutions. The blueM was unveiled this week as the world's first Bluetooth enabled companion device for the Palm m500 series of handheld computers. In June, TDK Systems introduced its blue5 clip-on for Palm V and Vx devices offering proven compatibility with Nokia and Ericsson Bluetooth-equipped phones.

Today, TDK Systems introduced its Go Blue PC Card designed to fit PCMCIA slots of notebook and laptop computers. The latest in a continuing wave of Bluetooth technology developed by TDK Systems, the Go Blue PC Card brings cable free email and Internet access while using Bluetooth-equipped mobile phones.

Wireless printing and Personal Area Networking (PAN) data exchanges are also a reality with Go Blue PC Cards. As a convenient and unobtrusive means of retrofitting Bluetooth functionality for PCs, the card uses a high sensitivity receiver with an integrated antenna to transmit and receive Bluetooth radio frequency (RF) data. The device opens the door to ad-hoc networking in wireless workgroup meetings and automatic synchronization of PDAs, mobile phones and PCs.

Last week, TDK Systems released its Go Blue USB Adapter, a Bluetooth clip-on device giving laptop and desktop PC users cable-free access to emails, networks and the Internet.

"All products in the Go Blue range - the USB Adapter, blue5 and blueM for PalmV and PalmM series PDAs, and the now released PC Card -are dedicated to retrofitting Bluetooth to products that are already widely used," said Nick Hunn, managing director at TDK Systems. "There is no need to wait for the freedom of cable-free mobile computing. It is with us now," he added.

TDK Systems has been working with many other major hardware and software developers, associated with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), to ensure wireless compatibility amongst mobile phones, PDAs, printers and across the relevant communications protocols, such as the GPRS network.
