Telephia, Inc., the leading provider of market intelligence for the wireless industry, today announced that it has acquired Mspect, the market leader for short messaging service (SMS) QoS. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Telephia will add Mspect's SMS monitoring capabilities to the Telephia Wireless Data Network and Application Performance ("Wireless DNA Performance") service, its wireless data QoS performance measurement solution that helps wireless carriers and other wireless businesses benchmark and improve the speed and reliability of data services.
Mspect has developed a global QoS monitoring system for SMS communications that enables mobile service, application and infrastructure providers to gain a competitive advantage by ensuring the quality of their subscribers' experience. The company currently monitors SMS delivery success rates and latencies on six U.S. wireless carrier networks, as well as four German wireless networks.
"Mspect's technology perfectly complements our existing WAP QoS delivery platform and allows us to provide a comprehensive solution for all our customers," said Mick Mullagh, CEO of Telephia. "We have received very positive feedback from both Mspect's clients and our own about this powerful combination of wireless data QoS monitoring capabilities."
"Joining forces with Telephia creates a win-win situation," said Mark Adams, CEO of Mspect. "Telephia can now offer a one-stop solution for wireless data QoS to support global carriers." Adams will continue to work with Telephia as a consultant.
Telephia's Wireless DNA Performance service is a distributed platform for monitoring wireless data applications on major wireless carrier networks. The service provides wireless application protocol (WAP) browsing performance and, with the acquisition of Mspect, now includes SMS delivery statistics. The service currently monitors CDMA, iDEN and GPRS technologies and will soon include 1xRTT.
Telephia's comprehensive suite of intelligence products and services helps address the key business needs of a diverse range of wireless customers, including carriers, tower companies, Internet companies, device manufacturers, enterprises and financial institutions. Telephia tracks carrier market share, churn, media spending and pricing plans; measures the quality of voice and data services; and captures insights about the attitudes, perceptions and habits of wireless voice and data users.
