TROY Wireless and Axsys Automation Demonstrate Home of the Future

COMDEX Attendees Experience the Freedom and Flexibility of a Wireless ``Smart Home''

November 13, 2001

TROY Wireless, a division of TROY Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: TROY) and Scottsdale, Arizona-based Axsys Automation today are previewing the "Smart Home" of the future at COMDEX 2001 in Las Vegas at the Bluetooth(TM) Pavilion, Booth No. L 5142-22BLU. The home automation demonstration features wireless technologies that empower common household devices. Axsys' wireless smart home solution enables everyday devices including lights, blinds, and thermostats to "talk" to each other and perform upon command. COMDEX attendees can experience this miniature smart home and give commands using a PDA. Wireless communication between the PDA and smart home devices is achieved with TROY Wireless' WindStack(TM) Bluetooth protocol software. Cell phones, PDA's and laptops now become the "remote control" of the future for household electronics.

The user can wirelessly "wake up" a smart home, put it to sleep, turn on music, heighten the security system, turn appliances and entertainment systems on and off, as well as adjusting lighting and atmosphere. The need for a centralized computer is eliminated because every device contains its own intelligence and has the ability to cooperate and communicate using LonWorks(R). The smart home also saves money. For example, the technology can turn lights off when there is no one in the room, resulting in lower electric bills.

Brad Carey, President of Axsys Automation, stated, "This is a natural evolution of devices becoming more intelligent, affordable, and convenient by providing the user with a much richer experience. Axsys Automation is offering this solution to several industries that can benefit from intelligent environments."

"We are introducing our product to the market via partnerships with technology companies such as TROY Group, Inc.," Mr. Carey added. TROY's Bluetooth protocol stack software was instrumental in enabling wireless connectivity to the smart home solution we provide."

Patrick Dirk, Chairman and CEO of TROY Group, Inc. added, "Up until now, the WindStack(TM) has been implemented primarily to enable Bluetooth wireless capabilities on printers. This smart home demonstration with Axsys Automation highlights the flexibility of the WindStack for use in applications totally unrelated to printing. We are excited about the versatility and market potential of TROY Wireless' WindStack(TM) Bluetooth software protocol stack in a wide variety of future applications."
